I don't even think an epic song has to be exceptionally long, but it has to tell a story or have some sort of time element. I don't consider HL to be "epic".

good song - yes
good musicianship - yes
long enough - yes
epic - no

Over the last few weeks I've grown to dislike the word 'epic.'

I myself am starting to favor the death penalty for people who use that word in reference to anything other than the works of Homer, Virgil, and the Venerable Bede.

I think a much more prudent use of that penalty belongs to complainers of 'shoehorned lyrics' (Rush has been doing that off and on since 1975.. aren't you use to it yet?), lack of 'melody' (trying too hard to sound refined and intellegent) and waveform posters (arrrrgh, let's all get mad at this solid wall.. grrr!).

Any lyrics that are written prior to the music are Shoehorned! You can't get around it! Sometimes it fits sometimes it doesn't. Kinda like.....!
