Tommy Sawyer
My best friend knows who Rush are and knows a couple songs. However, I think he should be more into them. You haven't experienced life without experiencing Rush. Anyway, do you think this is a good introductory list? Right now he listens to mostly current pop. Total time: approx. 1hr. 1. The Spirit of Radio 2. Time Stand Still 3. The Pass 4. Closer to the Heart 5. Tom Sawyer 6. La Villa Strangiato 7. Caravan 8. 2112 (Full)
Scars
The list looked fine up until 2112--it's not really for the absolute beginner unless you're just looking to impress them with a 20 minute song . If they're mostly into pop, you're better off slowly getting them into the more abstract stuff (2112, LVS, etc.). I think the list could use some Signals or GUP, but that's just my opinion. Digitallware
Moving Pictures, then fly by night, then hemispheres, then 2112.

Tommy Sawyer
Thanks for the input, I agree that 2112 is maybe a little too... out there. I'll probably put some more 80s/90s stuff in there.
StellarJetman
In chronological order: "Limelight" "Subdivisions" (I hate this song, but I'm sure that he'd like it.) "The Analog Kid" "Losing It" "Afterimage" "Middletown Dreams" "Force Ten" "The Pass" "Dreamline" "Face Up" (See "Subdivisions".) "The Big Wheel" "Animate" (See "Subdivisions".) "Alien Shore" "Leave That Thing Alone" "Cold Fire" (Maybe not; I love this song, but I know that I'm in the minority.) "How It Is" "Earthshine" "Far Cry" "Caravan" I'd imagine that these songs would work best.

Cosy Toes
QUOTE (Scars @ May 22 2011, 08:34 PM) The list looked fine up until 2112--it's not really for the absolute beginner Not for a beginner? JohnnyBlaze
QUOTE (Scars @ May 23 2011, 05:34 AM) The list looked fine up until 2112--it's not really for the absolute beginner I'd say the exact opposite! It's ABSOLUTELY for the beginner! Really, how better to introduce someone to RUSH than with the album that (imho) was the birth of the band's classic sound? Rick N. Backer
I think sometimes full albums work best, since there's a degree of continuity to them. In that regard, I would have your friend listen to Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Signals. After that I'd introduce Snakes and Arrows. Then, if your friend is looking for more, you can introduce some stuff from the debut through Hemispheres or the GUP-HYF era.
J2112YYZ
Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. If those two albums don't hook 'em then nothing will.
JamesRPJr
When I was first introduced to I started off with the box set Archives......I still feel that the three albums that this set covers (Rush, Caress of Steel, and Fly By Night), are a great introduction to ! For their Synth period I would throw in Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure. a fine introduction indeed!
metaldad
QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 22 2011, 04:27 PM) Something off of RTB, if he likes pop. Or if he likes crap
Tommy Sawyer
I'm trying to stay away from hard-rocking and early stuff because he doesn't like hard rock, and as I said, listens to pop. I'm thinking of replacing 2112 with Bravado, Subdivisions, Resist and The Larger Bowl. What do you think?
