The Owl Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 One of the hardest polls Ive ever made....... Hard to believe that 2 of the best of all time come from the same family.. I adore both groups that each brother was famous, for without either UFO or the Scorpions, metal would have a very different face today... It is really hard to choose......and both have written amazing lyrics for each of their perspective bands. I really cannot choose here...... gonna blindly close my eyes and point out (totally random vote on my part) Ennie Minnie Miney Mo.............. Rudolph.
ReRushed Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 It's Schenker with a "c"! Oh yeah, UFO is one of the most grossly underrated bands of all-time. So Michael gets my vote. Even though he's an a-hole.
micgtr71 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I saw Michael open for Rush and was not that impressed. Always liked the Scorps, but I think it was Matthias Jabs that I fond more interesting. Gonna go with Rudolph on this one.

treeduck Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Simple: Rudie has the riffs, Michael has the riffs AND the chops...
Mr. Krinkle Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Pretty hard to compare two different kinds of guitarists. I vote Michael over Rudy. As far as songwriting, it's real close. Old Scorps vs. MSG. Tough call there.

Babycat Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Jan 21 2011, 03:16 PM) Michael +1
Mr. Krinkle Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 QUOTE (wrekinboy @ Jan 21 2011, 09:42 AM) old Scorps wins by a mile I agree there and I'd listen to old Scorps all day too if I had to really make the choice but overall I think Michael has better songwriting skills just because he's a better guitarist overall. Just my .02.
MMCXII Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'll cast my vote with a video... This is UFO playing in a school in Germany and I'm pretty sure it was shot right at the time UFO "borrowed" an 18 yer old Schenker from thier opening band 'the Scorpions'. in fact you can even see Klaus Meine groovin in the back starting at 4:46! (you probably won't recognize him lol) even at 18 he was awesome and this tune was soon extended in concert to showcase an amazing solo by Schenker. I love the way Phil Mogg and Pete Way are chatting and looking at Michael during his solo in sort of a "look at the kid play" kinda way. also:check out the nerd on acid stripping and flailing at the front LOL! gotta love the 70's
MMCXII Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 search for the other tunes from that '73 show. they're all good! however Michael Schenker video/solo. it fits the song so well rocks like nothing else!! outro is wicked too!
ozzy85 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 QUOTE (treeduck @ Jan 20 2011, 03:32 AM) Simple: Rudie has the riffs, Michael has the riffs AND the chops... Pretty much true. Long time Scorp's fan here, though... I can hum most of their riffs on up to Love At First Sting. I only know about UFO recently (thanks, treeducky.)
MMCXII Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 UFO - Space child I love the way he throws a blistering kickass solo right in the middle of a nice slow tune. ya, big michael Schenker fan here... can I vote again?
vital signz Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 How about Schenker vs Chancre? http://www.roughedge.com/features/images/T_msg_schenker_bros_portait007_72dpi_by_marc_theis.jpg http://hardinmd.lib.uiowa.edu/pictures22/cdc/PHIL_3498_lores.jpg
1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Rudolph wasn't much of a lead guitarist, was he? Wasn't he mainly a rhythm player?
Tick Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 QUOTE (metaldad @ Jan 21 2011, 09:56 AM) Mike hands down Indeed. Its not even close.
MMCXII Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 how about Michael Schenker vs Uli Roth... Roth was a pretty influential and original guitarist. plus he f**ked Hendrix's girlfriend lol
Tick Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 QUOTE (MMCXII @ Jan 25 2011, 10:16 AM) how about Michael Schenker vs Uli Roth... Roth was a pretty influential and original guitarist. plus he f**ked Hendrix's girlfriend lol That's much more of a fair fight.
ozzy85 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jan 25 2011, 06:19 AM) Rudolph wasn't much of a lead guitarist, was he? Wasn't he mainly a rhythm player? Yeah, he was. Great riffs, though. Someone should combine the two... And yes, there's Uli John Roth. Great, stylish space-cadet guitar god.

Comparing Rudy and Michael is interesting because they're brothers, but that's it. Otherwise, it's not a fair fight. Comparing Michael to Uli or even to Matthias Jabs makes more sense to me.
ozzy85 Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 You gotta see this! The Schenker brothers in 1972! Wow...
