I just picked up a cool looking and great sounding bass.

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/tanhuntland/bart.jpg

It is a Dean Edge Q4 with Bartolini pickups and Grover tuners. I have been playing my Aslin Dane ( Fender Jazz copy) with Seymour Duncan passive pick-ups. These active Bartolinis have a great range with the cut/boost treble/bass knobs and a nice pick-up blend knob.

This guy from Craigslist ( Point Loma, San Diego) knew someone from Dean and had eight of them, brand new and sealed in the box. The boxes had some minor shipping damage and/or black dust smudges, but the guitars are in mint condition with all styrofoam and plastic film protection intact.

They sell all over the web for between $489- $569.....I got mine for $200.00 smile.gif

Here's my rig:

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m67/HillBillyWannaB/BassRig.jpg

2 homemade Jazz Basses. Inca silver is a Mighty Mite parts bass with Fender custom shop 60s pickups. The "Geddy" is an SX body, AllParts B&B neck, Geddy pickups/hardware/electronics. All used parts, made it for about $350 and it sounds great! Roland Juno-D synth, Roland SH-32 synth module triggered by Fatar MP-1 pedals.

Bass rig is DBX 166 compressor-->SansAmp RBI-->Trace Elliot Head/4x10 cabinet. Just run the synths through an eq into an old Peavey Combo 300 bass amp.

Is that white one a Squire, or a V63 or whatever they call them? Nice collection, btw

Thanks!
It's a limited edition (#15 /1,000) Chris Squire model 4001 V63CS. It's a cream-ish yellow.

Beautiful! I love Geddy Lee, but Squire is my favorite.

Howzit gang...

Had an old hollow body that I cannot even remember who made back in my early days... (1980-1987) It got "lost" when I joined the Army and it never made it to me..

Then got a Riverhead Unicorn... A Steinberger clone at half the cost but to me, sounded better when played side by side through a Peavy TNT with a 18" Black Widow speaker... back in the late 80's. It's electronics got beat up though so it sits collecting dust till I can get it fixed... if possible

Had an Ibenez to get back into the swing when the Riverhead croaked. Sold it.

Got a Rogue accoustic (1st gen) to play when in Iraq 2005-07.. still have it

Currently have a Geddy Lee Jazz in traditional B&W... at home

Looking for another accoustic, maybe a Dean, as I find myself once again overseas. This time in Afghanistan.

I play at home through a Peavy TKO and have a small 20W Rogue 1X8 that I used for the accoustic which now acts as a monitor.

Looking for the right amp setup for use with a real band, should the opportunity arise. The TKO is good enough to annoy the neighbors, but not against the sound of a full band...

My music corner... Stereo brought back from Iraq, used to play CD's to play along. And yes, those mirrors are vintage late 70's when I used to go to carnivals and throw darts at balloons...

Hello everybody. I'm a newb to the forums. My first post!

Bass rig

American Fender Jazz Bass -alder body, maple neck

Tech 21 SansAmp DI.

Hartke Transient Attack 350w bass head

Peavey 18" cabinet

randall road warrior 2 X 10

Boss ME-50B Multiple Effects Bass Pedal

So, I love my Fender Jazz Bass. It plugs into the SansAmp which provides the drive I need and some ampeg style modeling. The SansAmp has an XLR out that goes to the house. So far the Boss Effects Pedal I am not using live but plan to soon.

Keyboard rig

M-Audio Axiom 61 2nd Gen 61-Key USB Midi Keyboard Controller

Roland PK-5A 13 key foot pedals

hp g62-223cl notebook

M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

Software: Cantabile Performer 2.0

OP-X PRO - Virtual Oberheim OB-X XPander VST

The virtual Oberheim is amazing. Cantabile Performer allows me to set up as many virtual synthisizers as I need, each assigned to an area of the keyboard or foot pedals. Also, I can create subsets. For example, in Subdivisions I have the intro sound, then at the appropriate time I trigger a subset by hitting one of the foot pedals on the Roland and it adds strings, hit the pedal again and it splits the keyboard into a bass tone on the low end and the solo lead tone on the top side for the solo, then hit the pedal again and the keyboard goes back to the main voice, etc. When the song is over, I hit an assigned key and it switches to the next song in the set.

Here is an overhead picture of me at my last gig. I am on the left. Sorry our drummer got cropped off. The picture was taken from a balcony, and he was under the balcony.

New bass this week. It's a Squier Affinity P-Bass. My friend found it, used and pretty beaten up, at a shop for $40. He gave it a new paint job and some new knobs and sold it to me. I had pretty much given up on Squiers, and especially their Affinity series, but I was amazed at how well it played and sounded for what it was. Not the greatest thing ever, but it's a step up from my shitty entry-level Ibanez bass.

Nice! Always like a bargain. Looks like a one piece pickguard. That's an easy cheap upgrade. You can get a nice tortoise color or three piece layered one for $25-$40. Just be sure not to get one for an American Standard otherwise you may need to expand the pickup hole a bit (the metric pickups are slightly larger than the standard ones). I did that with a Mexican J. Once I shaved a little off it was good to go.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, the pickguard definitely feels really cheap. My friend (the guy who sold it to me) works in metal fab and we were actually talking about maybe making something out of copper sheet or whatever else he has lying around. Might just go with a pre-made plastic one though. Unfortunately my extremely limited funds are probably going to go towards getting my out-of-commission Strat back in working order, so I think the original pickguard is going to stay for now.

Steve Harris used to have a cool brassy pickguard on his P way back. Maybe your buddy can use the plastic one as a template and cut something cool for you.

I always liked Alex's mirrored pickguards from the early 80's...

Mirrored pickguards are cool until they are scratched and worn.

Congrats on the new bass.

The Squier basses are a better deal than one might expect.

I just got a brand new Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass. I'm having it wired to stereo and mono out, dumping the tone pot altogether, switching out the pickups for the same kind as in the Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass and getting rid of the UGLY tort pickguard and installing a three-ply mint green/black/mint green one.

Then I'm going to check all the frets for level, fix whatever needs to be fixed, steel wool (0000) the frets, clean and lemon oil the fingerboard and put some Rotosound RS 77 flats on it, dropping the tuning to D,G,C,F and using it in my Soundgarden tribute.

That bass is going to ROCK. 1022.gif

I'll keep it, although it will never be used.

The old tort pickguards looked way better.

These new ones look like some little kid was given a clear pickguard , some paint brushes and some brown, orange and yellow paint and went for it. tongue.gif

Yeah, I still have my old W/B/W one from my cream J. It is in the case never to be used again, but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. You never know...

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6121/5987053922_4b4c2de1c1_z.jpg Yes, thats a Trogdor sticker th1245.gif

My Bass is a Peavy Zodiac EX. I bought it in a sort of "beginners package" with a Peavy Max112 bass amp. i have not been able to find any information on it on the internet about my Bass, and until 2 weeks ago, i hadn't seen another one anywhere. But i seem to have lucked out with this bass because it plays just as nice as any fender i have played (though i still want a Fender Jazz, eventually). i wish it had a jazz pickup in the bridge with a selector switch and two volumes... thats in the to do list.

As for the amp, its a very basic amp but for $300 it has done what it needs to do. i bought a Sansamp RBI for tone controls, and just freaking love it.

I also have a Zoom B2.1u effects pedal, but I am looking to sell that.

I also have a few guitars, but im a Bass-guy, so i'll post this here as well: I have a crappy "Denstone" Strat-knock-off that my parents bought me for Christmas. for a year or so, it did it's purpose: help me learn guitar, but now the neck is warped and doesn't stay in tune at all.

My acoustic is a Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QI, apparently they're hand made in Quebec! sounds great, comparable to a taylor acoustic, but over half the price!

Edit: also want to get some MIDI pedals/ make my own. being a student, and unemployed sucks!
