Mara
QUOTE (BeOhBe Bob @ Dec 6 2010, 12:14 PM) O Holy Night...the buildup, crescendo...shit gettin goosebumps from memories of it being sung by my church choir (I was 2nd bass) and other sopranos that can hit and maintain! Ditto this. Let me add that I do NOT like the modernized versions of this song, with various gospel singers and Celine Dion using the hymn simply to show off their own voices and ranges. "Cantique de Noel" (the real name) is a lovely classical piece and that's how I like to hear it. (Hate Mariah Carey's screaming version of it). Dislikes: The Beatles' "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime" John Lennon's "Happy Christmas"(ick) Wham!'s "Last Christmas" "My Grown-Up Christmas Wish" (not sure who does this one)
BeOhBe Bob
OK how bout when people add their own spin on songs example (add ons) I recently overheard being sung in a store by a rumpled dirty 30 something dude on line for checkout...with his wife and their load of decorations stuff... Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer(reindeer) had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.(like a rose!) All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.(like Oliver) They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games. (like Monopoly) Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say: "Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, (GLEEEEEEEE) Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you'll go down in history! No

iluvgeddy05
I like most except Christmas Shoes, Do You Hear What I Hear, and Baby it's Cold Outside. All time favorite is Charlie Brown Christmas -- all the songs from it. And the recordings are so old sounding but in a good, sleepy hot-chocolate, way! Also like the goofy ones like Dominick the Donkey and Hippopatamus for Christmas.
circumstantial tree
Do You Hear what I hear? Do they Know it's Christmas? (original 1984 version) The Closing of the Year ("Toys" soundtrack) Chestnuts roasting on an open fire (don't think that's the title, but the Nat King Cole version) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland Silent Night - Mannheim Steamroller skating - Vince Guaraldi (from "Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown") In a hurry, I'll post more later... I used to like it but now I'd like to slap the greedy bitch. I also love "Angels We Have Heard On High" "Once In Royal David's City" and of course the Hallelujah Chorus. Mara
I also love The Eurythmics version of "Winter Wonderland". Normally I don't like this song much - find it a wee bit on the far side of silly. But Annie Lennox's voice does it good. (Walkin' Round In Womens' Underwear, yes, is hysterically funny). CMWriter
There's this song they play at the Christmas Eve service every year.. ..and I despise it to no end.. .. "In the Bleak Midwinter". I don't care how traditional that song is for the United Methodist Church, I don't want a slow-tempo, dragging, depressing song the night before Christmas! Ugh! I hope they don't play it this year. xP But pretty much all the others I'm okay with. I like most of 'em.
Mara
Oh, I also really like "Who Put The Dick On The Snowman?" , although it's more of a wintry song than it is a Christmas one.
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
"Jingle Bell Rock" make me want to punt a kitten every time I hear it. (props to CMWriter for the kitten line -- couldn't resist the cross-thread reference)
