Serenity was pretty cool.

"You put'em together, you got a firefly [class starship]. Thing will run forever, they got a mechanic even half awake."

I love that quote; it's indicative of the whole SERIES of "Firefly." Thing should've run forever, but the network wasn't awake. sad.gif

I really did dig these rockets from Yogi's Space Race from 1978.

Apollo 13!

Even with a huge hole blown out in her side she still got them home! You don't get any more badass than that!

That's a great picture.

Hey this topic is about spaceships in film

Some humans believe that the moon missions were faked.

What do you think?

doh.gif You're right of course, brother-man! I'm sorry, I should have focused on exclusively sci-fi spaceships and no, I don't think the moon landings were faked. laugh.gif

Since my favorite sci-fi film (Blade Runner) doesn't feature a spaceship, I shall pick the ship from my second favorite sci-fi movie, Alien.

Here's the space tug USCSS Nostromo:

Geek trivia tidbit: "Nostromo" is Latin and literally translates to "our raw meat". How's that for a subtly nasty name?

I just wonder why they need a satellite dish. Do they have cable tv? They have little hand held devices in the movie that you can talk across the galaxy, yet the spaceship needs a satellite dish the size of Delaware?

That and if you look at the size of the cockpit (giggle) compared to the rest of the Melinnium Faukkin...doesn't look like there's room to stand upright.

The dish isn't a satellite dish, it's part of a military-grade sensor package.

The ship is only tall enough to walk around in from the cockpit going back into the main circular mass of the ship. The front prongs aren't tall enough to walk in. If I'm not mistaken, that's where the concussion missile launchers are housed.

Can the Falcon really fly?

I would like to see Lucas and NASA get together and waste our taxpayer's dollars and build a Falcon and see if they can get it off the ground.

At the end of the day you might as well sponsor Howard Hughes and the "Spruce Goose."

This ship from Silent Running. They actually have a lot of room to grow food and don't pretend it's not a problem or explain it away with black magic like replicators.

Thanks for the "geek trivia" Dave, I never knew that.

I am sure you picked up the new "Alien" Blu-Ray box set with the four films and a ton of extras!

Can't wait to crack the seal on that baby.

There is a limited edition version of this too. It's on Sideshow. The Blu-Ray discs come housed inside of an Alien egg.

Classic!
