Show Don't Tell
http://altreligion.about.com/b/2010/...rush-cover.htm Occult Symbols Obvious in New Rush Cover Tuesday June 1, 2010 Rush Cover Caravan The band Rush is releasing a new single today called Caravan, and the album cover consists of a clock face with 12 blatant occult symbols. My question is... were they being clever in their choice, or are they random selections (or at least selections based on appearance rather than meaning)? Starting at the one o'clock position, we have: brimstone, torrefaction of gold, mercury, winter, zinc, sun or gold, water or Aquarius, essence, Neptune, solve, earth or blackening, and copper. http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7458/caravanbu2bsinglecov.jpg

Really don't dig the on-going religious theme they got going on. are you religious then? I could understand you not liking the concept if you are but if not why not enhance and work further on the some of neils greatest writing for decades, S&A's was lyrically quite phenomenal (if you are able to read and interperet the lyrics without being conflicted by your faith) to my ears BU2B seems to take the reigns from S&A's lyrically and inject a heavier sound musically, superb work

New World Kid
Not really sure why people are attributing the symbol to Neil's views on religion... Or was someone here brought up to belive in Neptune, god of the sea?

I don't think enough people appreciate his lyrics because they think "oh more religion. screw that." Listen to the lyrics. Really listen to them. Then you might appreciate them a little more. LOST But seriously, I refuse to believe anything Rush does in their songs or in album art is purposeless. They picked those symbols for a reason. Armor and Sword85
I'm sure the symbols DO mean something: If we notice, the first two symbols are the ones of the new songs. So, will every symbol be associated with a song on Clockwork Angels? Will the album have 12 songs? I think that makes pretty much sense if we remember the rencent topics the band are dealing with now: time, clocks... Will it be a full circle album? Conceptual, maybe? Also, if we "open" the digital booklet, we'll see on page 4 that the symbol by the Caravan lyrics is the copper symbol. Copper is associated with gypsies. I don't know if that's the way in all the world, but at least in my country (Spain), gypsies used to work with copper long ago. And now, one thing from the past comes to my mind: "Time is a gypsy caravan". And what about "In a world where I feel so small"? Gypsies sometimes do feel inferior because of all the racism issues. I thing the character on Caravan's lyrics could be a gypsy who travels with his family on their caravan and thinks about his condition. Now, one o'clock. BU2B has the brimstone symbol. As somebody posted on another thread, the lyrics deals with religion again. The thing that comes to my mind when thinking about brimstone is 'hell' or 'devil'. And the devil is mentioned on the lyrics, isn't he? And what about the Heaven's justice? I think these lyrics are about Hell and Devil, hence the option of the brimstone symbol. Two o'clock: torrefaction of gold. What will it be? We still have to wait some time...

kbomb106
It's been a really long time since I've seen the movie, but isn't the symbol at 9:00 the symbol for the angel Uziel (at least as put forth in the movie The Prophecy)? I thought I remember that - or something similar - being the tattoo on the dead angel's neck - and in that old Bible. I guess it would fit in with the album title. shaun3701
occult symbols are religious, even if they don't symbolize a "traditional" religion like Christianity. Neil does seem unhealthily preoccupied with the subject of religion ever since S&A.
