So it's official. September of 2009 is the greatest month ever in music.

Surely there is another release or is this release alone the one that does it?

In a nutshell:

New Muse

New Beastie Boys

New Pearl Jam

New Porcupine Tree

New Megadeth

New Flaming Lips

New Massive Attack

All due out in September

From The News update it seems that this release is going to be similar to that of "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance"... as in it has a single piece on one disc (and I am assuming that it will be broken into sections) and then other pieces on the second disc.

I hope "tour extensively" doesn't mean just the tour dates they have set now. If they add Dallas, I'll move heaven and earth to be in the front row.

They'll most likely be back in the US around May or so.

Why does a 55-minute album need to be a double?

No just the first disc is 55 minutes. Its just one song. I'm not sure how long the whole album is gonna be confused13.gif

Double CD with a 55 minute track? Great! But that's strange,

he says he dosn't want records to be longer than 50 minutes.

Can't wait for that though!

Can't wait to see PT on September 30 in Toronto cool.gif

I may have to cross the border to see them. Toronto is closer than NYC for me.

So the second disc is like what Nil Recuring was to Fear? I'm a little sceptical about anything these days, and I'm hoping it isn't just 1 song as 55 minutes. If it were broken up I'd be VERY excited.

Now I know why some of the UK shows are seated though.

It's still up in the air as to whether or not it will be broken up, but I think it will.

And the 55 minute piece is only on the first disc. The second disc is the four songs that are completely independent of The Incident, so yes just like Nil Recurring.

So the first disc is the album, and the second disc is pretty much an EP of other tracks recorded.

the 55 minute track will be seperated like Fear Of A Blank Planet was, right?!??!

not just ONE song that is 55 minutes.

Im guessing it will be similar to "Six Degrees of Innerturbulance"

as it it will be one 55 min piece, but broken up into smaller sections

I have my floor seats for The Warfield on September 18th.

I had no idea about "The Instinct" until I saw this on TRF.

Wow! The Rush Forum really is good to have around at your fingertips.

I always thought to myself...

"How the hell will Steven Wilson and Co put out a better record than In Absentia?"

Then I said to myself a few years later:

"How the hell will Steven Wilson and Co put out a better record than DEADWING?"

Then I said to myself a few years later:

"How the fokk will Porcupine Tree ever top FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET?"

Will "The Incident" be better?

Who knows....... for the Shadow knows............

By the way, "SIX DEGREES" by Wet Dream Theater SUCKS!!!

Their worst album by far. JMO

Glad that band was able to rebound, although they need to find a new lead singer. rofl3.gif

Maybe they can surgically implant Myung's hair on James LaBrie's scalp. 062802puke_prv.gif

Good questions, but I don't think either Deadwing or FOABP topped In Absentia. In fact, I like them progressively less....Nil Recurring least of all...(though I love them all).

Quite honestly, I'm not sold on this album-length 55-minute epic. I'm notoriously against these humongous songs anyhow. Chances are they'll read as a number of different songs anyhow...so why not just give them different titles? If they're all related, thematically, then it's a concept album. If you've one song with six differently named sections, for instance, IMO you have six songs. So hopefully it'll be like that. Otherwise I think if it's 55 uninterrupted minutes of continuous playing, it runs the great risk of being a tiresome chore.
