  1. QUOTE (Gompers @ Aug 10 2009, 10:47 AM) Has anyone listened to "Time Flies" yet? I was able to check it out. If SW doesn't throw out a thanks to Pink Floyd, I will not be happy. It has very distinct moments hearkening of "Dogs" and "Sheep". At one of the listening sessions (can't remember which) he did say that Time Flies was a nod to Pink Floyd. I'm holding out on that 106$ package, if I'm going to spend that much on the album I'm going to get the nice vinyl version instead.
  2. QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ Jun 13 2009, 04:26 AM) So the second disc is like what Nil Recuring was to Fear? I'm a little sceptical about anything these days, and I'm hoping it isn't just 1 song as 55 minutes. If it were broken up I'd be VERY excited. Now I know why some of the UK shows are seated though. It's still up in the air as to whether or not it will be broken up, but I think it will. And the 55 minute piece is only on the first disc. The second disc is the four songs that are completely independent of The Incident, so yes just like Nil Recurring. So the first disc is the album, and the second disc is pretty much an EP of other tracks recorded.
  3. QUOTE (sullysue @ Jun 12 2009, 09:24 PM) I hope "tour extensively" doesn't mean just the tour dates they have set now. If they add Dallas, I'll move heaven and earth to be in the front row. They'll most likely be back in the US around May or so.
  4. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 2 2009, 10:03 AM) QUOTE (vaportrail @ Jun 2 2009, 10:40 AM) Well, you want a concept? The whole album is going to be one 50 minute piece Still unclear as to whether it's one 50 minute song or split into a song cycle. Personally I think Insurgentes topped anything PT-wise since Stupid Dream songwriting wise. I know they spent a good amount of time working on this as a band so hopefully there's more input from Richard and Colin on this one than Gavin As long as it is not contrived and sounds effortless. While I like PT from Signify forward, I did not care for the SW release. Can't quite put my finger on it why outside of that collectively I didn't enjoy it. The 50 minute epic? Well we'll yes have to see. Now I like what GH offers and not so much Barberi, because it is too spacerock-ish. But Colin has created some infectious grooves in the past and that is something that Gavin usually gets into to. The move towards the metal sound has hurt that ability to lay down a happening bottom. Yeah, Colin has pretty much disappeared from the albums. SW and Gavin have written all of the lines on the last few albums. and Richard, space rock? Nahhhhhh without his sounds and textures the music's flat. Sadly you can't hear them in the heavy stuff unless it's 5.1, in which case it's perfect. But I have a feeling that the heavy stuff won't be so heavy this time around, should be a nice change-up that they've needed.

If there's a friday show however I know we'll be having a bit PT get-together near the venue, you'll have to stop on by if you're going to that one as well! no friday show for me but there is a bar right around the corner from the show. we can meet for a quick before, let me know will do!

  8. QUOTE (The Owl @ Apr 17 2009, 11:13 AM) It sucks that there are no show within 500 miles of where I live.... True, sounds like if they even do come back in 2010 (which depends on the sales of these shows) it'll most likely be only for the major markets again, so no smaller shows like Nashville, Asheville and such like 2007. It seems that promoters are wanting hard proof of bands being able to sell tickets before booking a bigger tour nowadays. Good thing my girlfriend just agreed to fly to NYC with me for (hopefully) both NYC shows and Philly!
  9. QUOTE (naturalsciences101 @ Apr 12 2009, 11:48 AM) Who's familiar with the really early stuff? I mean, anything prior to Signify. I know nothing of this era. What to get next? Up the Downstair, Sky Moves Sideways, Voyage 34, On the Sunday of Life In that order
  10. QUOTE (Fridge @ Apr 11 2009, 01:15 PM) QUOTE (tangy @ Apr 11 2009, 06:48 PM) edit-WTF it seems like more dates overlap, is Kings X opening for PT?? I think they are playing jointly. As far as I am concerned, it should be Porcupine Tree opening for Kings X No joint show, King's X will be the opener. So if it goes like previous PT tours King's X will get about an hour or so, then PT about 90 minutes to two hours. I'm really looking forward to these shows, been wanting to see King's X for awhile now.

  12. QUOTE (The Owl @ Mar 20 2009, 09:27 AM) QUOTE (vaportrail @ Mar 19 2009, 10:59 AM) QUOTE (Wilderness_of_Mirrors @ Mar 18 2009, 08:35 PM) does anyone know when the hell we are going to see a Tour Of A Blank Planet DVD??!?!? Not until 2010, the band's too busy recording the new album (which is maybe going to be a double album. One 55-minute track and then a second disc of shorter material). Where did you hear that! Source? He mentioned it in a couple interviews recently and also has mentioned it to fans at Insurgentes signings. I prefer it actually, it let's me save up for the Chicago PT show (assuming they play there). Word is that the US tour is going to be in October and be very small, six dates or so.
  13. QUOTE (naturalsciences101 @ Mar 18 2009, 09:42 PM) QUOTE (vaportrail @ Mar 18 2009, 09:41 PM) Nah, I'd say his most creative output goes to everything pretty evenly. As he's said, there are things he writes that's more fit for Blackfield, more for PT, more for BC and such. And yes, his two biggest projects are my two least favorite, but I still love them! Bass Communion and No-Man are just more interesting to me, more variation and experimentation. And I don't hold Radiohead's catalog higher than PT's, I like PT much more but I still like Radiohead. Ok, that makes more sense. What's the bloke's involvement with this group they call Feersum Ennjin? I have an EP from them. I was told that SW had some hand in it.....Oh, snap, son. Answer that question if ya can, but more importantly, do you have for yourself a copy of Opeth's Damnation? WOW! An awesome feat indeed. The release is a perfect amalgam of Akerfeldt's and Wilson's styles. Songs are absolutely awesome. There's something about the structures which remind of PT around the Signify era. Damnation is fantastic! But I like Blackwater Park quite a bit better, probably the best of the three albums SW produced for them. And I haven't heard of him being involved with that group...
