Anaon
Hi! I searched a bit but I didn't find any topic about your favourite Scotch whiskies... In the "middle range", what's is your fav? I personnally like the Balvenie DoubleWood 12 years, I found a Tamdhu 25 years old really good too. I'm not against the Talisker 10 years sometimes... And at last but not least, I really like the Knockando 12 years... What about you?
thesweetscience
Famous Grouse 12 year blend and Chivas Regal 12 year blend are both good affordable whiskeys for around 30 dollars a bottle here in the states. What do you consider affordable?

What do you consider affordable? You know, the 35/50$ range for a bottle... Whiskies you can find anywhere but which are better than the low cost blended whisky... Gov
For me, single malts are: Highland Park 12, Glemorangie 10, Laphroaig 10, Scapa 14, Old Pulteney 12, Cragganmore 12, Bowmore Legend to name a few. All of these are under $40 in my area. As for some cheaper excellent blends: Black Bottle NAS, Islay Mist, Teacher's Highland Cream, White Horse, Johnnie Walker Black Label

rushbass
I prefer Old Charter 10 year old or even better the 12 year old variety... In some shots, I go with Crown Royal.

In response to the original question, I like either of the Glens, -fiddich or -livet. I'm also fond of Tullamore Dew . http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg293/goose_trf/Tullamoredew.jpg
Rand
The price of Scotch varies wildly depending on what state you buy it in. Oregon and Washington put a 50% surcharge on Scotch compared to California. So price aside I like the Glen Morangie 12 Port Wood Finish. Dalmore is really nice too. OriginalFan
I have run across an excellent sipping whiskey that's less than $25 around here - "Buffalo Trace" Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. I haven't been much of a whiskey drinker since my Gleddfidich days a couple decades ago, but I guess tastes change as we get older... or something... maybe I wanted a change from all those big cabernets I've been drinking lately. Anyway, wanted to pass this on to y'all in case you wanted to go try something new and really good despite the low price! Kismet
Hatchetaxe&saw
All are between 30 and 45 euro, with the Lagavullin being the dearest. Ardbeg 10yr Lagavullin 16yr Macallan 12yr The Tirconnell Cardhu Best blends are: Powers 12yr Jameson 12yr Black Bush Honourable mention: Redbreast (pure pot still, a mixture of malted and unmalted barley))
Gov
I really like Islay stuff. Laphroaig and Ardbeg. I have not yet had Lagavulin 16 and have been tempted to buy a bottle. It is about $76 dollars versus $38 dollars for Laphroaig. Is Lagavulin worth the almost $40 difference?
