  1. A friend of mine asked me for music recommendations a couple weeks ago. I sent her youtube links to Big Wreck, Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson and Peter Gabriel. On Friday morning (before the horrible news broke) I sent her "Between The Wheels" just to see what she thought of it. The next day she asked me if I knew what happened before I sent the song. I did not. She had heard of Rush but never really listened to them. She could tell I was upset and that led to more conversation about Rush and Neil in particular. "You mean he wrote the lyrics???" Yes! She is currently a teacher but until recently she was a professional dancer. I sent her "Losing It" and 3 other Rush songs. I also included the link to the drum solo in Frankfurt someone posted on this thread. Her Response: "I've only listened to Losing It so far, but I'm crying. I'm not sure if it's the home hitting lyrics or the beyond exquisite music that put me in this place, but these words certainly started them flowing. f**k I miss my career. Sadder still to watch it die Than never to have known it For you, the blind who once could see The bell tolls for thee Drums...oh my god...my language...you're speaking....He's speaking! I think I just fell in love with Neil Peart. I mean it. I'm in a daze right now A beautiful god just left us" She gets it.
  2. The trick when anybody you love dies is to feel happiness at the memory rather than pain for the loss. Getting to that point isn't easy. It requires intention and time. You can't get around it, you have to go through it. Grieving is an important part of the process. Get drunk. Cry. Scream at the sky. It takes as long as it takes. Then be grateful and happy that you got to share the planet with them. That's the wisdom I've gathered in my time here. Hope it helps.
  3. I remember the first time I heard Rush. I was 13 years old (I'm 55 now). A friend shared a joint with me and said "Check this out". The song was Twilight Zone. I was hooked. I always had this fantasy that I'd meet Neil at a gas station or diner. I'd pretend I didn't know who he was and strike up a conversation about the weather or something. That will never happen now. I'm grateful I got to see him so many times. I don't have any Macallan so it's going to have to be bourbon. Rest in Peace.
  4. I wouldn't believe this if not for the video: Wedding band playing Emerson Lake and Palmer's Karn Evil 9 Third Impression.
  5. Found a clip of high school kids playing "Technical Difficulties" by Racer X. Why did I post it here? Check out the drummer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_0_gMhGInk
  6. I flew down to San Francisco to see the show last Thursday. First time I have ever flown to see a concert and I'm really glad I did. It was a great concert and an incredible bargain for the ticket. I didn't know that Marco would be there so that was a pleasant surprise. I wish I could see it again. Hoping SW releases a blu-ray of the show in the near future.
  7. He reminds me of the Korean version of Falco:

Forgive me if this is a repost. I just saw it on television and a search didn't get any results.
  12. I echo most of the other criticism. The constant RUSH lyric references were annoying. In the notes at the end Neil says that Kevin writes incredibly fast. I'm guessing that's because he doesn't put much thought into it. Some of the ideas in the book were very cool: The device that shows what's in your imagination for example. A lot of the book didn't make any sense. Owen was supposed to be this pivotal character but at the end he checked out and nothing changed. Why were the Watchmaker and the Anarchist bothering with him in the first place?
  13. He's only cut off in the thumbnail gallery. If you look at the nomination page the full photo is there.
  14. Forgive me if this is a duplicate post. The search function timed out. Geddy Interview http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/TV%20Shows/M.../ID/2277532785/
  15. She's a keeper all right.
