I recently heard my first DT, picked up Images and words a couple weeks ago. Love it.

go get Octavarium and 6DOIT next.

You really can't go wrong with 6DOIT. It's a double album and both CDs sound completely different yet both friggin' rock the house!

That being said I'm going to try to go to the Worcester show this summer. What are the odds of The Glass Prison being played? I'm hoping for it but guessing they'll save it for when they play the whole AA suite for recording purposes.

@Astromancer:

My first DT album was Scenes from a Memory and it's a classic.

Let's get a setlist like this:

A Nightmare to Remember

6:00

Take the Time

Honor Thy Father

Hollow Years

In the Presence of Enemies pt 1 & 2

Fatal Tragedy

Peruvian Skies

The Glass Prison

A Rite of Passage

Finally Free

Endless Sacrifice

The Test that Stumped Them All

Octavarium

The Dark Eternal Night

The Count of Tuscany

Metropolis

--

I haven't been following the setlists and this is like 4 hours of music but hey who knows, right?

Hey, they're doing an evening with tour for the next album cycle

No, not for BC&SL....... for their next album cycle, after they record another album and go on tour for that.. MP has stated since DT did not do a Spring Leg in North America (All North America got was the ProgNation tour) that the next time DT tours (for the next album) it will be an "Evening With" tour...

Ill find the comment and repost it here, its somewhere on his forum.

Edit to add: I actually looked a few pages back to see who broke this news in here, Tangy posted that "MP announced that next tour was an evening with" back in January........ but no source was given.......I cannot find a source... where did you hear that originally Tangy?

Mike said it awhile back on his forum. I read it myself. Everyone on the DT boards were buzzing about it for quite some time.

I am very excited to hear that DT's next tour will be An Evening With....So much stuff to play. Last 2 tours have been the Progressive Nation gig...and the set's were amazing...but too short.

I am ready for 3 hours of DT.

holy shit what a year MP is having.

has he claimed the title of the hardest working man in rock music?

Per MP:

As 2010 is shaping up to be one of my busiest years in quite some time, I've compiled all of the dates here in one place, for easy one-stop shopping........

An interesting note (or should I say an INSANE one?) is at the end of July, I am going to be playing live with 3 different bands in 3 different countries in the course of less than a week!!

(The Dream Theater/Iron Maiden tour ends on July 20th in Washington DC, I then have a Transatlantic gig at the High Voltage Festival in London on July 24th and then I am playing with Avenged Sevenfold the very next night in Montreal on July 25th....and on top of that, I am to be rehearsing with A7X in LA on July 21st and 22nd in between the DT & TA shows...)

Just call me the Phil Collins of metal!

(anybody have a Conchord I can borrow???)

That is not pretty.

I loved it. Never saw Neal drum before. To me that performance may be a little rough around the edges but one of the things I like best about portnoy is his willingness to improvise and jam like that.

Yeah, the Neal drumming thing blew me away in New York. Is there anything Neal can't do?

Mike does have that ability to turn a major event into a garage band moment. laugh.gif

What about my idea for teaming up Iommi, Butler and Appice with Dream Theater?

Call it the 8 man Black Theater, or Dream sabbath, or maybe DARK THEATER?

Here is the difference for me and I've really tried to get into DT, but can't...at least beyond about 10 minutes.

DT = amazing technical musicians

RUSH = amazing ability to combine heart/soul with elements of technical

Im all about Scenes from a Memory and Train of Thought. Everything else theyve done is hit and miss for me. Hope their opening set for Maiden contains plenty of stuff from these 2 amazing albums.

I don't really have anything against Dream Theater, but I think their only really good album is Awake. I can't stand the rest of their stuff (what I've heard, which is a whole lot of it) for whatever reason. Awake is incredible though, they sound like they might have genuinely enjoyed that record. Every one after that just seems rehashed though. These guys never evolve. Very good players, but they seem closed-minded when it comes to creating music. It's just how I feel though.

If you think Awake is the only good album they have, I don't believe you when you say you have truly listened to DT. No, I don't.

I wish people would not bash in this thread. This is a fan thread, not for haters.

Don't derail this thread. Go complain about DT in one of the other 1000 threads designed to rip them apart.
