ColdFireYYZ
I was listening to this today and I realized that its nearly 80 minutes long. I'm really impressed that they were able to fill a CD of material without having to throw in a bunch of filler.

RUSHHEAD666
QUOTE (treeduck @ Sep 13 2011, 10:57 PM) Hey Earl, now that Portnoy is out of DT who is your new target in DT? Labrie? Hey buddy! I can't believe you like this new pile of pseudo-progressive poop! My new target is simple and it's not James. It's not John either even though he is a steroid using guitar player. It's not Myung either because in all honesty I can never hear his bass playing on a DT record. Hell I can't even hear his playing live. I've seen DT like 30 times since 1989 and I rarely hear him play. Why do they turn him down so much? Like I just said in my last post I was front row dude a few years ago right in front of Myung playing that bass. His hands were effortless and smooth going over the sexy organic instrument yet it was like watching a guy masturbate for three hours yet never reaching the elusive orgasm. JMO The guy I'm going after the most from now on is JORDAN RUDESS!!!!!! He is so smug and arrogant. Just like Mike Portnoy used to be. Must be short man's complex or something. I don't get it. Rudess with his lame ass beard and lame self absorbed keyboard console. It's really sad Duck. Rudess must have a small prick because he sure seems like one. No wonder they showed the other short prick the door. Dream Theater used to be a great band. Now they just rely on BIG EGOS, BIG PAYCHECKS and recycled music to make the empty suits at Roadrunner happy, rich and fat. Mahalo

Mahalo Well you see Earl I'm not long time DT fan, I'm fairly new so I don't really look back and pine for the good old days or anything... I think the album is pretty good after a couple of listens. Not so keen on the final song but overall it's not bad. On this album I enjoyed JR's piano and B3 stuff, I do think the wispy beard should be shaved though. You can actually hear Myung on Outcry, which is one of the best songs. The DVD seems a bit weak, the same drummer audition that we all saw on youtube about four months ago?? Is that all it is? I will have to give "Outcry" another chance. What a pun. I prefer "Far Cry." Some of the lyrical content of this album seems like it was written by a third grader: "You build me up you bring me down.... I'm falling to pieces." Really? Duck, you have known me for years now. When I buy a new DT album I am not hoping for the good old days. That would be like saying that I pray every night to GOD that "Clockwork Angels" will sound just like "Hemispheres." That shit ain't happening. Heck I actually enjoyed the last DT release. I loved the album art too. You must admit that they did indeed rip off that Supertramp album cover. I was really looking forward to this new album without Port"Annoy" on drums. The end result thus far is FAIL. It's like watching a mother black bird regurgitate her food and vomit it into the nest so her babies can eat. Dream Theater is a shallow reinvention of itself. Starring aimlessly into the Wilderness Of Mirrors. It's time to shatter the glass or perhaps as Neil wrote in "War Paint." "PAINT THE MIRROR BLACK!!" I can't wait to see Dream Theater at The Warfield this year just so I can write a review on here and piss off all of the children. I bet the drumming will be the highlight of the night. "Light to dark, dark to light, light to dark, dark to light............" That lyric is great and represents the current status of this cliche progress rock cover band. Steel Rat
I gave up on Dream Theater with the release of Train of Thought. Every album since then has been a lifeless page-for-page rehash of "Scenes from a memory." The lyrics are a terrible joke. The compositional structure of every single song is dredged with ancient exhausted prog cliches. Jordan insists on cramming those silly overdramatic angelic orchestra pads into every song. God knows it's totally justified by that really really deep subject matter. Their general technical agility is no more impressive than it was 20 years ago. As far as new music goes, Dream Theater is dead. I really looked forward to this album being somehow different with Portnoy gone.

I hope the Wet Dream Theater Analog Kids don't roast your nuts for your honesty. As Billy Joel would say it's "such a lonely word." Anyway I am a fool. I bought the cd dvd version of this album thinking that the dvd was going to have behind the scenes footage of the band filming the new album. The dvd is just the f***ing drummer audition video. EPIC FAIL! I have it on right now and I will admit is is cool but in all reality this video really exposes who the new leader is and I find it completely pathetic. Jordan Rudess seems to be the new team captain. The video says it all yet he is what, the third keyboardist to enter the band? Give me a break DT Diehards. You are happy with this? I call bullshit. Jordan Rudess is like a drummer replacement in "This Is Spinal Tap." Well hell, even more like being a drummer replacement in Judas Priest. I just don't understand it. Jordan talks in the video like he is part of the FAMILY. His is the third generation keyboard player for a band filled with college snobs from the Berklee School Of Music. Mike Portnoy is the new Kevin Moore. All REAL Dream Theater Fans know that the Kevin Moore Era was so much fuckingg better than the NOW. Derek didn't impress me either. I like his solo shit better. Can you say Simon Phillips? Kevin Moore is so underrated. The epic masterpiece "Awake" says it all
RUSHHEAD666
"Brain Of tw**" is one of the biggest Metallica rip off albums in the world. Saying that though, "Train Of Thought" was better than "St. Anger." Metallica should hang it up too. So I hear Tony Iommi has a new band with Ian Gillan and fukking Jason Newsted. Are you buying? I am. I used to know Jason. Nice guy. All of those pictures of him with the angry face were fake.
Tick
Well, Earl, I'm glad you boosted DT's sales by purchasing as many copies of something you detest as possible. As far as your assessment I would say, boy do we not have similar taste in music. As you know, I detest vomit inducing hair metal. Primus? Wow, I don't think I could like anything much less. No thanks. Dream Theater delivers in a big way! Thank you for the brilliant album boys. Mr. Portnoy....Stop wasting your time with bubble gum metal and step up to the plate with something substantial. Thanks for your contribution, Earl. Please send me all your copies, I'll give you my address. I love Jordan on this record. Oh my God, James rules on this album, ESPECIALLY the ballads. So soothing to my ears. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh........ I'm in Dream Theater bliss! I get get enough. Need to hear it again! Now! Where is Metaldad, I'm getting concerned? I called him but he didn't return my call yet.
