Segue Myles Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 2024 hasn't been the most AMAZING year for music, but I'm actually quite happy with the releases I listened too this year, some absolute gems exist! Anyway, here is my list of the best albums of the year, according to me. Share yours! 1. Blood Incantation- Absolute Elsewhere This album has completely taken me by surprise. This is flawless album, and I can see it being this generations Leviathan. 2. The Cure- Songs Of A Lost World The Cure returning in 2024 with their greatest album since 1989? Didn't expect that! 3. Pearl Jam- Dark Matter My top three are all pretty much number one material. I adore this album. Wreckage might be my song of the year. 4. Nightwish- Yesterwynde Took me a minute to appreciate this album. Whilst I don't think it matches their finest works, it comes closer than I anticipated! Brilliant, inventive, and not as accessible as some of their past glories, it's a rewarding album. 5. Judas Priest- Invincible Shield The Serpent And The King is enough to put this album in my top five of the year all by itself! A great album, one I have faith will age beautifully. Like Firepower, I think it's time to admit that Judas Priest are still capable of unleashing stunning classics that match their past hits. 6. Saxon- Hell, Fire And Damnation I am not ashamed to say I play this album more than the latest Priest, though overall it's not quite as good. Still, a phenomenal album from a band that, like Priest, is peaking again. I'd take both bands recent years over Maidens. 7. Simone Simons- Vermillion Epica's frontwoman unleashed a masterpiece of sorts, it feels surprisingly fresh even though it could pass for her main band for much of it. Terrific album! 8. Taylor Swift- The Tortured Poets Department I'm happy to say I love this album, but in the grand scheme of things its not one of my favourite albums of hers. Still, plenty of songs here I'd rank amongst her finest! My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys, Down Bad, Guilty As Sin, Clara Bow...a might fine work. Also I saw her love this year, which was a dream come true (I've been a massive fan since 2008/09). 9. Sonata Arctica- Clear Cold Beyond I hated their last album, so I didn't expect to enjoy this. But I really did! Still, for a band that was once very inventive and bold in their choices, it is very sad to see them happy to simply...churn out by the numbers power metal. Still, I do really enjoy this album. 10. Sabrina Carpenter- Short And Sweet Sabrina Carpenter is a lot of fun. Is this an album for the ages? Possibly not. But I have a lot of time for her, she's got a great sense of humour and knows how to craft killer songs, and every track on this album sounds like a smash hit. 2
Segue Myles Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Unfortunately, the latest Opeth album...has not impressed me.

zepphead Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Ah.... that time of year again. I need to have a think ....... on what seemed like a fairly lean year, I may struggle with 10!

zepphead Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 (edited) My fave ten of 2024 came to me quicker than I thought - Judas Priest - Invincible Shield A tremendous achievement for a band at this stage of their career. Massive! Blood Incantation - Absolute Everywhere I heard the vibes about this album and was blown away when I heard it. Like Opeth, Blood Incantation are not bound by the constraints of Death Metal. Opeth - Last Will & Testament Unlike Segue Myles, I do rate this. A much heavier Opeth than recent releases. Blending old style Death Metal with intricate Progressive Rock. The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again. Every weekend, after several beers, I sing along (loudly & badly!) to this album. A true sign of a much loved album! Black Crowes - Happiness Bastard The Crowes are back sounding completely rejuvenated! The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World I only listen to The Cure occasionally, but this seems to be their best in a very long time. Bruce Dickenson - The Mandrake Project A good set from Bruce with strong vocals and crunching riffs. Ritual - The Story Of Mr. Bogd Part 1 A rather obscure Swedish Prog band but a firm favourite of mine. Not exactly prolific - first release in 17 years, but I still love them! Jon Anderson - True Jon has gathered up a cracking band on this album. Way better than any recent Yes stuff. Big Big Train - The Likes Of Us First album since the untimely death of vocalist David Longdon. New boy Alberto Bravin slots in well and this is another fine effort from a great band. The Analog Cub Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Either Invincible Shield or It Leads to This from The Pineapple Thief. They outdid themselves with the new album and it's no longer a case of Gavin Harrison carrying the band on his back, it really feels complete.

Saxon has been pretty much going non stop with touring and releasing new material for 40 something years and is very well respected in the metal world. What has Krokus been up to since their one hit in the mid 80s? 2

Most of their early albums are patchy 1

bluefox4000 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 i'm gonna try but it may turn out to be a short list this year. 1. judas Priest-Invincible Shield 2. Black Crowes-Happiness Bastards 3.Mark Knopler-One Deep River 4.. Willow-Empathogen 5. Billie Eilish Hit me Hard and soft (note......is this my fav by her. No but i still grow more a fan each day) and that's it for me. yes there's no Taylor Swift cause the album is mopey dopey ass cheese and actually i'm over her. Seriously i have no use for a whiny billionaire who needs to take a jet plane to her bathroom to change her tampon. Green day......Trust me i'd loved them on here but as an old band they pulled the lazy card while bands like JP are out here eating younger artists for lunch, lol i can't put PJ on here. because while the music on it has won me over a bit. it's production and pitch correction is a crime. Sabrina Carpenter is fun but not AOTY material. Opeth........they at least tried but........pass. so slim year for me but the listed ones i loved. Mick 2

Yeah that Green Day album is a strong contender for my worst of the year. Not because it’s deplorably bad or anything, but because it’s just so… completely uninspired. Maybe if they had waited till after the election to write a new political record… 1

But they went to the well and barely pulled out a full pale, lol Mick 1
