Union 5-3992 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Judas Priest - Invincible Shield Holy cow, they actually matched the awesome Firepower record. High on Fire - Cometh the Storm Maybe a bit bias because I saw these guys at the Muddy Roots fest this year but this is like Motorhead made way heavier. Matt Pike fully embodies the spirit (and voice) of Lemmy on stage and this album is a scorcher. Jerry Cantrell - I Want Blood This took a few listens but it really grew on me. It's a great follow-up to Brighten. I'm fine with AiC not releasing anything new as long as Jerry keeps pumping out solo music. Horseburner - Voice of Storms Another really fun metal album. It was an instant hit for me and had a really infectious energy. Opeth - The Last Will & Testament Definitely not their best but I really like their blend of Newpeth and Oldpeth. Prog mixed with death metal for a demented Succession themed musical. Mikael went full hog with his cheesy vocals and over indulgence in keys/flutes/weird 70s vibes. David Gilmour - Luck & Strange This is a huge improvement from his previous solo album. This is a really mature piece for Gilmour and is probably my favorite ex Floyd album other than his debut album. Handsome Jack - A Good Thing Local Buffalo band that has an awesome 70s throwback sound. Many bands like Gretta Van Fleet have attempted to recapture the essence of that 70s sound but they always infuse some modern sensibilities that ruin the illusion. If you told me this was some undiscovered 70s band, I'd fully believe you. They've really managed to hit a nice blend of CCR and Link Wray. Amigo the Devil - Yours Until the War is Over This is demented folk rock with heavy metal lyrics. Lots of catchy songs about robbing liquor stores, breaking into heaven, and abusing drugs. A few serious songs, a few comedic songs, all with a bit of an ironic twist in the lyrics. He's 3/3 on great albums now. Jack White - No Name A really straightforward rock album. No bullshit. His best of his solo career (the rest have bored me so far). Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere A lot of guys also like this one. It's a cool blend of sounds that grabbed me on my first listen. They border just on the edge of ripping off Pink Floyd but since I'm a Porcupine Tree fan, that doesn't bother me too much. Some honorable mentions Heavy Temple - Garden of Heathens Black Country Communion - V The Lemon Twigs - A Dream is All We Know Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Kinnery of Lupercalia: Buell Legion The Smile - Wall of Eyes Black Pyramid - The Paths of Time are Vast King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard - Flight b741 3
Derek19 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Judas Priest - Invincible Shield (Deluxe edition) Def Leppard - One Night Only: Live At the Leadmill, Sheffield - May 19, 2023 Coldplay - Moon Music Lee Aaron - Tattoo Me Colin James - Chasing the Sun Mary Frances Leahy - First Light 3

Black Crowes-Happiness Bastards 3.Mark Knopler-One Deep River 4.. Willow-Empathogen 5. Billie Eilish Hit me Hard and soft (note......is this my fav by her. No but i still grow more a fan each day) and that's it for me. yes there's no Taylor Swift cause the album is mopey dopey ass cheese and actually i'm over her. Seriously i have no use for a whiny billionaire who needs to take a jet plane to her bathroom to change her tampon. Green day......Trust me i'd loved them on here but as an old band they pulled the lazy card while bands like JP are out here eating younger artists for lunch, lol i can't put PJ on here. because while the music on it has won me over a bit. it's production and pitch correction is a crime. Sabrina Carpenter is fun but not AOTY material. Opeth........they at least tried but........pass. so slim year for me but the listed ones i loved. Mick Woaaaaah I forgot that Willow album was this year! My brain put that as 2023! Sabrina is...if you wanna use the label...my guilty pleasure of the year. 2

To be fair the last album they released that I would rank amongst their best is probably Bounce. I also thought the leftovers album Burning Bridges was way better than it deserved to be. But I've disliked the two albums prior to this one immensely. 1
Entre_Perpetuo Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I’m definitely still a couple weeks out from totally finalizing my list, but as I’ve already revisited about half of my standing top ten, I can say it’s been a super awesome year for music for me, and there’s a very close race for first place between at least 6 or 7 albums. When I do post my list I’m probably gonna do a whole top 25 if not a top 50.

The Analog Cub Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 The new King Gizzard album this year was fun, and better in a live setting, but ultimately not what I'm after when I reach for their discography. That's fine, the next one is supposedly recorded with an orchestra and the single they released is insanely good

I like Flight b741 as a fun ode to southern rock but it's no AOTY for me. Definitely a step above The Silver Chord
