It's the phoniness, mostly.

With DDY, it's not the phoniness, it's who he is, but it's just cringe.

Honestly I think DeYoung sounds cringier when he’s trying to be a rocker. He’s a balladeer, that’s what his voice was made for. He *can* do more than that, but with Tommy and JY in the same band, it usually makes more sense to let them handle the rockers on vocals.

i saw Deyoung in a touring production of Jesus christ superstar in like 93 pre-Styx reunion (can't believe i never mentioned this, lol) theater is his more natural arena i can tell you.  this guy WANTED to be in theater.  i feel like he just fell into rock.  He was pontious pilate BTW really over the top as usual but it worked very well in that setting.  Got cast autographs but that prick deyoung never came out:laugh: what a diva

Gotta be Too Much Time on My Hands

Been hearing this a lot lately, including on a road trip with my son.  Great summer song, and I think you're right about being their best radio song.

Oh, it was played in a double shot with Fooling Yourself  :7up:

Dennis DeYoung got way too treacly for me.
I’d say Blue Collar Man especially as Tommy Shaw does lead vocals.

It's either Blue Collar Man or Renegade for me.

Miss America isn't what I'd call a hit but that's another good one. For deeper cuts I prefer that one and Queen of Spades.

Their theater-ish stuff doesn't do it for me as much.
