Muse - Drones, 2015  (9/10)

 🤔 perhaps, although supposedly

‘ a concept album ‘ …due to having ‘ Mutt’ on-board as (co)producer .. is this their most straight ahead (in places) Hard Rock album (?)

This is in my car’s CD player …so I listen to it a lot !! … mostly because as much as I like it… the real reason is I can’t be bothered to go back in the house to change it for something different ! 🙃

Love this to death.

Muse Black Holes & Revelations (10/10)

This album is just note for note perfect.

Mick

I want a remaster to deal with some of the loudness issues that creep in, but otherwise yes.

Muse-Drones (10/10)

Of recent Muse albums (recent as in everything from 2nd law, lol) this is my fav.  and i actually think they should have retained Mutt Lange a bit longer.  He and the band were actually a GREAT match IMO.

Muse-The 2nd law (8/10)

I'd say of all Muse's album this one is the most "let's try ALL the things"  album.

Madness

Panic Station (their take on......New jack swing......a totally dead genre:wtf: lol)

Survival

and that's just some.  and i've actually really grown to like this mostly.

except the 2nd Law mini-suite.  they did a suite again like on the Resistance and AGAIN it fails.  they might have figured it out cause they stopped those going forward, lol

I love The Resistance suite. The 2nd Law’s is far less serious. They still use Isolated System in their live shows as a kind of breather between acts (also Dom sometimes uses it as a drum solo), but Unsustainable is a relic of its time. A fascinating one I still enjoy, but very kitsch. Totally agree about this being the “try everything” album. From James Bond to dubstep to Coldplay and U2 and Foo Fighters and Stevie Wonder.

I am still shocked you don't enjoy Imaginations From The Other Side! That's probably the bands most acclaimed album, alongside Nightfall! I love a differing opinion though.

I did not really enjoy their latest album The God Machine. In fact, I was sorely disappointed by it. They said it was a return to their roots but I felt it was just poorly produced and sounds at times like demos. I prefer their first two speed metal albums over that.

For me, A Twist In Tge Myth just feels waaaaay too over produced. Like the production is so LOUD and the mixing is awful. I find it a drain to listen too. And the songs? Pretty much all filler, although I have a soft spot for Otherland because it's based on a Sci fi series from my favourite author Tad Williams.

Good thing you like differing opinions - since music is art its a 100% guarantee that one persons treasure will be another trash.

Want to be shocked some more?  Well, I aim to please.  For example my top Rush albums would be:

1.   2112

2.   Power Windows

3.   HYF

4.   FBN

5.   Presto

6.   AFTK

7.   S & A

Rush has 19 original studio albums.  Notice 3 albums that I have not yet mentioned?  Namely Hemispheres, Permanent Waves & MP.  So that means for me those 3 (plus Grace Under Pressure, Signals & Counterparts) are jumbled together behind the 7 I mentioned.  Not exactly certain of the order of these 6 albums.  Yes, I said it.  I like Presto, S & A and HYF more than MP and Hemispheres.  Hows that for a shock?!  But it is my honest musical taste.

Interesting that you mention The God Machine.  Here we see alike.  I have listened to it and I was not impressed - not at all.  I had a hard time getting through it to be honest.  One of these days I will take another run at it but even when I have listened to some of the individual songs I have not been impressed.  Great vocals but the songs just don't do much for me.  I prefer Imaginations over it and perhaps, maybe, the speed metal albums as well.  I need to give them all another shot - although they don't thrill me much either.

Blind Guardian - At The Edge of Time

Good album.  Liked it much more than A Twist in the Myth.  About on par with Tales From The Twilight World.  But its not as enjoyable as Nightfall in Middle Earth, A Night at the Opera or Somewhere Far Beyond.

Favorite song?  Clearly "Tanelorn (Into the Void)"

Second favorite would be a 3 way tie between "Curse My Name", "Valkyries" & "Wheel of Time".

There are some other good songs on the album such as "Road of No Release", "Control the Devine" & "A Voice in the Dark" but those first 4 clearly stand out.  Production value of the album was better than A Twist in the Myth.

Oh I love that! I'd have Roll The Bones in my top five and Hold Your Fire is definitely up there!! Yeah my list is non typical either!
