Mastodon -- Cold Dark Place (EP, 2017)

When this came out, it took me some time -- and several listens -- to realize this is every bit as good as Emperor of Sand.

Fave tracks, in no particular order:

North Side Star

Blue Walsh

Toe to Toes

Cold Dark Place

In 2017, I found EoS disappointing, but LOVED this EP.

Still do love this EP, but I'm happy to say I love the album too!

Scardust - Sands of Time

I believe this is the first album from this group and Strangers, which I listened to yesterday, is the 2nd (and most recent) album from them.

I liked this album but not a much as Strangers which (in spite of my comments of the occasional harsh vocals) I really liked a lot.  Best song on this album for me is either the title track, or "Hourglass" or "Gift Devine".  Good album but Strangers is much better.

I really like this group (in spite of my comments about the occasional harsh vocal).  The vast majority of the vocals are clean and those I really enjoyed.  Still not certain if they are symphonic metal or prog metal.  But they do both very well (IMO).  Since I like Strangers more it tells me they are moving in the right direction - a very good sign.

A group I will have to keep following.  Their is a lot of potential here (IMO).

The Warning - Queen Of The Murder Scene (on vinyl)

Really I've grown very fond of this record. So much great mood and melody and it's a really sick modern rock album that ISN'T OVERPRODUCED. Ugh. Yes.

I love this album. Possibly a top five double album for me, alongside:

The Beatles- White Album

Bruce Springsteen- The River

Biffy Clyro- Opposites

Fleetwood Mac- Tusk

Copeland- You Are My Sunshine

Is this the most soothing band around? I think so.

Mastodon-Crack the Skye (10/10)

The discussions led me here.  I still stand by this is the best place to start if your not a fan of harsh metal vocals.  I mean they're used but far more Sparingly.  Mostly clean singing here.  my fav.

Yea i wouldn't recommend early Mastodon if you hate being screamed at, lol

I wouldn't even recommend blood Mountain to people who hate harsh singing.  i know it's a fav but it's still sludge metal at it's heart.

CTS is an album for who like their prog/metal/ leaning closer to prog.
