Fantasy RUSH compilation album

I'm gonna say if it's a compilation then it's probably a double vinyl record or a single CD, so around 120 minutes.

I'll have to think about it.

Two songs max per album, you can skip any album you like, no live songs.

Not even YYZ from ESL?

What would be your ideal track listing then please

Captain Treeduck ? :-)

I've not thought of mine yet. :D-13:

Breaking the rules about 2 songs max per album but after Neil died, I basically made this as a 3-part playlist as a way to introduce people to Rush. Each part is the exact length of a CD. A mix of hits and deep cuts, at least one song from every album (except Feedback), each "disc" sequenced in a way that sounds good, not chronologically. I think it does the job well.

Part 1:

1. Limelight

2. Freewill

3. Ghost of a Chance

4. The Anarchist

5. How it Is (2013 remix)

6. The Analog Kid

7. Red Sector A

8. Leave That Thing Alone

9. Mission

10. Middletown Dreams

11. Tom Sawyer

12. By-Tor and the Snow Dog

13. Xanadu

14. Vital Signs

Part 2:

1. 2112 (full)

2. Subdivisions

3. Manhattan Project

4. Ghost Rider (2013 remix)

5. Circumstances

6. The Wreckers

7. Headlong Flight

8. Red Barchetta

9. The Spirit of Radio

10. La Villa Strangiato

11. Working Man

Part 3:

1. One Little Victory (original mix)

2. Time Stand Still

3. YYZ

4. Animate

5. Distant Early Warning

6. The Pass

7. Driven

8. Bastille Day

9. Vapor Trail (2013 remix)

10. Marathon

11. Far Cry

12. Dreamline

13. Natural Science

14. Closer to the Heart

15. The Garden

I started making one but realized it was all just the longest songs from the debut to Moving Pictures. I'm not gonna figure out how to break that down into an album, so I'll just call it the 420blazeit Longboi Playlist.

How about a collection of all the epics?

I've put the following together as possibly a set of 5 CDs or groupings or order depending on what medium you're used to (i.e. how old you are!).

Seemed a reasonable order as a starter-for-10.

Thought about putting Cygnus and Hemispheres together - could be done. But I thought one could go from Disk 1 to Disk 2 with a nod to having A Farewell To Kings and then having to put Hemispheres on separately as most of us would have experienced it.

Last disk was a bit of an afterthought but there may be a few other tracks out there that are knocking on the door.

# Disk 1

// Coleridge, Strange Dreams and Black Holes

Xanadu

La Villa Strangiato

Cygnus X-1

# Disk 2

//The Big Ones

Hemispheres

2112

# Disk 3

// The Last of the epics

Natural Science

The Camera Eye

# Disk 4

// The Beginnings

By-Tor and the SnowDog

The Necromancer

Fountain Of Lamenth

# Disk 5

// The shorter ones and a nod to the past

Headlong Flight

Jacob's Ladder

The Garden

Kind of stole Stromtron's idea in the end but in reality it was great minds think alike! Had my draft list on the go for a while and posted before seeing Stromtron's.

Does mine match your 420blazeit Longboi Playlist in any way Stromtron?

Ugh, I have thought about this a few times.

A couple of years ago I made a book of all the song lyrics and my choices will be made by reading through them and "hearing" the songs.

Not an easy task, thanks treeduck for the challenge :)

It seems appropriate to want to send a message, if one is going to choose only two songs from each album.

What if the compilation album created was to be sent into space on the nose of the next space craft? It has to say something about their music.

Self imposed deadline: Very soon and before I get too busy again.

I've done something like this before. With most of my favorite Rush songs, I did two 1 hr., and 20 mins. c.ds, but I didn't include a song from their "Caress of Steel". To completely fill a c.d., I didn't want to put the song "I Think I'm Going Bald" on it. On the two c.ds from "Clockwork Angels" to "Rush" studio c.ds, and albums, the songs are in reverse chronological order. For both c.ds, I've named them "Reflections of the Past" as their titles.

C.d. One

the Garden

Armor and Sword

Nocturne (Remix)

Resist

Nobody's Hero

Dreamline

Show Don't Tell

Mission

Marathon

Between the Wheels

Countdown

the Camera Eye

Jacob's Ladder

C.d. Two

Xanadu

Cygnus X-1: Book One - the Voyage

Cygnus X-1: Book Two - Hemispheres

2112

By-Tor and the Snow Dog

Working Man

Interesting to see Countdown on the list. I quite like the song but it always seems to get a kicking off some of the people on the forum.

At Power Windows, so far.

That is 11 out of 19!

I am trying...

This has been a good project for me.

I am using the "2 songs per album" formula.

Hard. Super hard.

Thanks for the extra task, to do.

Aside from daily life, I love the idea of trying to stuff a huge vinyl record into my new (used) Forester and listening to the play back. Ugh, but yes that would be fun to try?

Always listening to songs...always wishing I came across a puzzle that took, like, a minute.

But this longer puzzle is better, it has given me a good reason to re-read the lyrics of every album. :rush:

A few more to go

With two 1 hr., and 20 mins. c.ds, here is another one I've done. From Rush's nineteen c.ds, and albums of "Clockwork Angels" to "Rush", and the maximum two songs from each of them, the songs are in reverse chronological order, and at least, a song is represented, and not repeated to the other one I did. The second c.d. isn't completely filled, but if I included the song "2112", then it would be closer to that. For them, I didn't think of a title.

C.d. One

Wish Them Well

the Way the Wind Blows

Out of the Cradle (remix)

Carve Away the Stone

Animate

Bravado

Available Light

Force Ten

Mystic Rhythms

Kid Gloves

Digital Man

Vital Signs

Natural Science

the Trees

Closer to the Heart

C.d. Two

A Passage to Bangkok

the Necromancer

the Fountain of Lamneth

In the End

Here Again

So I made a list of my two favorite songs from each album, then I ordered it according from absolute favorite to absolute least favorite. It came out over 4 hours. So I trimmed it down to about 1 hour and 20 minutes... and it only has 9 songs.

This isn't the order I would put them in on the CD, it's just my favorite to my least favorite:

1. Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage

2. 2112

3. Xanadu

4. Natural Science

5. The Spirit Of Radio

6. YYZ

7. Tom Sawyer

8. Clockwork Angels

9. Marathon

I think I'm gonna go with a 2CD format so I can include a bunch of other absolutely great songs I love. I will say though, every one of these songs is easily in my top 20 Rush songs of all time. 1-7 are all in my top 10!
