I'll start:

1. "Paranoid" (1970) - Black Sabbath

Did you know that the original name for the album was supposed to be War Pigs? Sabbath went with that cover because it made sense. But at the last minute the record company decided to change the name to Paranoid and they didn't have time to get something else.

Apparently the total lack of imagination that went into the music also went into the album cover.

Fits right in with my mid-80s Yes complaints. Both bands had a history of great album covers then phoned it in for some reason.

I think that's ok nowadays probably for the same reasons I'm ok with Paranoid, and probably 90125. They are what they are, they represent what they represent. That's just me though.

Awful and that does not look like Greg Lake.

...but not as hideous as this...

But Love Beach is a terrible album with terrible artwork.

I never miss a chance to hate on Love Beach.

On the other hand, Ozzy's dress and Ward's jester pants:

their outfits may be terrible, especially by today's standards, but i always really liked the mirror and how their reflections are facing the same way as them.

Can we agree this could have been better?

Metallica_-_Metallica_cover.jpg

No. The only way to improve it would be to make it even more black.

I would have probably preferred that [thinking Beatles white album]. The snake in particular... just seems out of place.

None more black . . .

I guess the snake fits with "Don't Tread on Me," but why that song? Why not a wolf? (That would have been cooler, imho)

I get that's a cool image, and I wouldn't talk you out of it, but . . . what's it mean? Has the mirror been sabotaged? Does it have some sinister implication to match the tone of the band? Are the mirror figures trapped? Maybe I'm overthinking this.
