The Cure

Them, Smiths and Depeche were my holy trinity when I started college 18 years ago. I delved into other post punk like Duran, Police, Furs, Costello, New Order and early u2 but it was mostly those 3. Got sick of the Bizkit esque bully friendly crap that plagued radio at the time. I actually scheduled my classes so I could listen to Flashback Lunch on KROQ with host Richard Blade so I could hear those songs and some lighter new wave to take me back to childhood.

Loved how Stephen King’s It used Six Different Ways for that montage. Nice to hear a non radio single from them used for once.

In 1989, I went with my friend Ralph to see The Cure at The Spectrum in Philadelphia - at the time, I didn't know much about them, but that changed, quickly

The show blew me away .. Having been a metal fan and having seen literally 100s of shows to that point, I was expecting some lightweight awkward live performance

They came out with Plainsong and went right into Pictures Of You

They were heavy, loud, powerful and overall, amazing

They are whiny and boring. Figure.

get ur f***ing hate outta here my dood and let us fans discuss them. No need to bring hate to a band that does not need it.

Point proven.

A lot of good music to be had with The Cure.

I used to have The Top - Wish (on tape) back in those days.

Saw them on the Wish tour. They were pretty good live but unfortunately they had the worst opening act I've ever seen - The Cranes.

They were one of the best acts that performed on MTV Unplugged.

Favorite songs: Primary, In Between Days

A monster track from the Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me double album:

Great song to drive fast to on an all open road and desert.

A personal fave of mine and one of the most played albums by me ever to where i know it by heart. Perfect blend of the quirky pop of Head On The Door and a more melodic radio friendly version of their Pornography era sound.
