Wil1972
Oh i forgot. without Deyoung they made their best record in YEARS IMO......The new one. Now you could say it's nothing new.....which is true......but......AT LEAST IT'S NOW STYX AGAIN!!!! Mick Yea I did say in an earlier post how the new album was missing something without his "flair"... but that has its limits. I like DeYoung. But only as one piece of a larger puzzle. It would have been great to have a song or two by him on the new one. But not the "Dennis DeYoung Show". The new album is far more Grand Illusion than Kilroy (or Cornerstone) and Styx are better for it.

Chronos
I love about half of it: Lights, Borrowed Time, Eddie, Love in the Midnight. Never Say Never is okay. But I bought it in sixth grade, so nostalgia likely plays a significant role here. And actually, Lovely Wife's all-time fave Styx tune is Boat on the River. I once wandered into a bar in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and the band there was doing a kickazz cover of Boat on the River. Wish I still had the video!

Entre_Perpetuo
I've always thought Deyoung did a better job leading the group than Shaw did, but the new album ranks above Pieces as my favorite Shaw centered Styx album for sure. It's right up there with Paradise, Illusion, and Crystal Ball in my favorite Styx albums. I'll admit I still haven't heard cornerstone, but honestly Babe is one of my favorite classic rock love songs, corny as it is, it's effective... And imo that's what a big love power ballad should be. Corny, but sincerely effective. There's no denying the real issues with Kilroy though. The hits are all fine on it (don't let it end is pretty derivative though), but the album cuts just don't hold water. I CAN enjoy them, but I don't naturally want to, and that's the issue.

RushFanForever
For the non-Canadians who aren't aware of Gowan's solo career and why he joined Styx back in the mid 90's, please read these articles here and here. There's a fellow US female RUSH fan I know who's also been a follower of Styx for many years. When Gowan joined, she discovered his musical talents as a solo artist. In mid July 2012, she made the trek to Niagara Falls, Ontario to see Gowan perform live and was impressed. Like Blue Rodeo and The Tragically Hip, Gowan wasn't able to achieve success 'south of the border'. For these acts it's either 'lack of international interest' or management politics. Segue Myles
Paradise Theater is a masterpiece in my opinion. Cornerstone is a decent album bookended by two masterpieces.

Cause i never play Cornerstone, lol Mick One of the benefits of being able to select playlists on my phone is being able to skip songs - I have that song in my Styx playlist. As well as Babe. But not much else from that album. As for the new album, I have the whole thing.
The K Man
My updated Styx mp3 CD for the car (which gets up to 700 MB) has all of the new album except for Trouble at the Big Show. I have everything from Cornerstone except for Eddie and First Time. It's not a great album, but it's solid. Boat on a River and Love in the Midnight are great songs.

Hatchetaxe&saw
A few months on, and 100+ new releases bought and listened to, The Mission is still my favourite release of the year, alongside the GORGEOUS Adios Senor Pussycat by Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band.

bluefox4000
I feel like pre shaw styx was good. But Tommy i feel was that piece they were Missing. he gave them a shot in the ass man. i think he.....in the World of rock guitarists is VERY overlooked. Curulewski was decent, but he didn't give them that extra dimension they needed. Equinox was a strong statement from them pre-Shaw, but after he came in things just took off.
Wil1972
Also have to admit to being a little bit of a Shaw fanboi, as he hails from my general neck of the woods. Had the good fortune of seeing Styx a few years ago in Montgomery AL, Tommy's old backyard.
