chain__lightning
Definitely one of my favorite songs. I always thought it was the Digital Man as a kid. I love the last verse. "When I leave I don't know what I am hoping to find. When I leave I don't know what I'm leaving behind." That's deep ;) That line use to make me think-- Deep stuff there

It sure beats one of my classmates who had "Yabba Dabba Doo" as his senior quote.
grasbo
The story is set in the future 2017 in fact and they're about a kid who hates iphones and ipods and even CDs and any other digital equipment, hence the analog kid.So the song is about Steven Wilson(Porcupine Tree).

Lucas
“‘The Analog Kid’ was my first attempt at non-fiction. For the longest time I stepped into characters until I had my own confidence and technique to be able to step outside them as a writer.” Neil Peart ( thanks JB ) ;)
Segue Myles
This thread has honestly changed my opinion on both The Analog Kid and Digital Man. Taking into account all I've read and also the lyrics etc. I feel I have painfully underrated this Rush album. Digital Man in particular no longer sounds corny to my ears. Analog Kid has really interesting lyrics as well. Well I'll be damned! This pleases me as it proves me and Rush aren't over after all!

Rick N. Backer
It's about a kid sitting in a field and contemplating the fact that he's a character on what would be Rush's last truly great album for another 30 years or so.

thirteen
It's about Alex's guitar/analog resentment of Geddy's use of keyboards/digital on Signals :P
pjbear05
Could never figure out why it isn't Analog Man and Digital Kid.. digital was the new age ..Really?Things were analog when you were a kid.Things are digital now as an adult. That's what I took from it anyway. Ya but on New Year's Day the old year is portrayed as an old man and the new year is portrayed as a newborn baby..On January 1st, 2018 you'll be older. Then in 2019, even older. 2020, older still. 2021.... ;)Jeez, I hope I'm still kicking on 1\1\2021!
