YES all my life!

Gabriel > Anderson (maybe)

Howe > Hackett

Bruford vs Collins, Wakeman vs Banks and Squire vs Rutherford? I'm having spasms for laughing while I'm writing this!

Let's try it!

YES vs. From Genesis to Revelation

Time And A Word vs. Tresspass

The Yes Album vs. Nursery Cryme

Fragile vs. Foxtrot

Close To The Edge vs. Selling England By The Pound

Tales From Topographic Oceans vs. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

Relayer vs. Trick Of The Tail

Going For The One vs. Wind And Wuthering

Tormato vs. ...And Then There Were Three

Drama vs. Duke

90125 vs. ABACAB

Big Generator vs. Genesis

Union vs. Invisible Touch

Talk vs. We Can't Dance

Keys To Ascension (and everything after) vs. Calling All Stations (and the nothing that came after)

The metaphor kind of breaks down around the 80s where Genesis' output far surpasses Yes' in number. I haven't heard all of them by either band, but have at it for those who have!

Yes > Genesis across the board until we get to Big Generator vs Self-titled, then it's Genesis > Yes from there.

That was easy.

Note: Magnification > those 80's Genesis albums that won.

I can't be bothered to argue as clearly both have amazing strengths.

It's really down to each listener to decide who does it best.

I really don't connect with Genesis but there is nothing about them I actively dislike. I connect with Yes so much...but that doesn't mean what I enjoy the most isn't evident in Genesis work.

I think both are exceptional, I just oddly really only favour one.

ELP, Tull, Crimson, Yes...these bands I really admire, often love. Genesis are not inferior to any of these bands. I just don't enjoy them. Does this make sense?

And for me Peter Gabriel era Genesis is the best. Especially Trespass and most of Foxtrot. I don't like Suppers Ready though

The first time I ever heard Misunderstanding I didn't even know what Progressive Rock was. I was only 7. Of course 3 years later I heard Owner of the Lonely Heart for the first time. I still didn't know what Prog was. 36 years later I know what Prog is.

I know neither of those songs is Prog. Does it even matter?

One of the radio stations we play at work plays all the hits from the 80's. They play Invisible Touch and In Too Deep by Genesis. Neither of those are in the slightest bit progressive. I don't even listen to those songs in the context of the Invisible Touch album. They don't fit. The outtakes are much better in context, but you know what?

In the context of the times both are very good songs. I don't know wtf is happening to me. ;)

Genesis. Both great bands. I will say that Genesis went off the rails by the mid 80s. We Can't Dance is gawd awful. :rage:

I like that one actually now, though it took me a while to get into it.

Duck!

What do you think about "Calling All Stations?" It's one of my all time favorite records!

I love the Banks parts and the drumming on the album is killer.
