Genesis. Both great bands. I will say that Genesis went off the rails by the mid 80s. We Can't Dance is gawd awful. :rage:

I like that one actually now, though it took me a while to get into it.

Duck!

What do you think about "Calling All Stations?" It's one of my all time favorite records!

I love the Banks parts and the drumming on the album is killer.

It's pretty good but kind of drifts off towards the end. It's not bad. Doesn't really sound like Genesis though.

Steve Hackett is OK ... But he's never, ever comes close to anything like this

Blood On The Rooftops is a beautiful piece, and the guitar is superb ... But Clap is in another league, esp considering Howe would stand up there alone on stage and bang it out like some insane guitar god ( which he is )

I adore both bands, however, I must go with Genesis. I needn't words to support my reason, just this:

I have a great story about that song. Never liked it, then went to one of the later tours where they played old and new stuff, and I was seated near a disabled fan in a wheelchair - young man/ late teens early 20's. The song came on and he went nuts; waving his arms and hands (not wildly, in what looked like a dance) and singing loudly, but on key to the song. Everyone around him was smiling, and he appeared to be with his mother at the show and she was beaming at how happy he was. Whenever I hear that song now, I think of that young man and his joy, and I listen to the whole thing :)

The Gabriel Era blows all of YES away.

Thanks to this thread. i feel a Genesis binge coming on.

and when when i lie yes and Genesis albums side by side. it really is not even close.

Mick

Let's try it!

YES vs. From Genesis to Revelation

Time And A Word vs. Tresspass

The Yes Album vs. Nursery Cryme

Fragile vs. Foxtrot

Close To The Edge vs. Selling England By The Pound

Tales From Topographic Oceans vs. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

Relayer vs. Trick Of The Tail

Going For The One vs. Wind And Wuthering

Tormato vs. ...And Then There Were Three

Drama vs. Duke

90125 vs. ABACAB

Big Generator vs. Genesis

Union vs. Invisible Touch

Talk vs. We Can't Dance

Keys To Ascension (and everything after) vs. Calling All Stations (and the nothing that came after)

The metaphor kind of breaks down around the 80s where Genesis' output far surpasses Yes' in number. I haven't heard all of them by either band, but have at it for those who have!

YES vs. From Genesis to Revelation-i like neither really

Time And A Word vs. Tresspass-Tresspass

The Yes Album vs. Nursery Cryme-The Yes Album.......by the tiniest of hairs

Fragile vs. Foxtrot-Foxtrot

Close To The Edge vs. Selling England By The Pound-Tie......so close, lol

Tales From Topographic Oceans vs. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway-The Lamb

Relayer vs. Trick Of The Tail-Trick

Going For The One vs. Wind And Wuthering-W&W

Tormato vs. ...And Then There Were Three-And Then...........

Drama vs. Duke-Duke

90125 vs. ABACAB-ABACAB

Big Generator vs. Genesis-Genesis

Union vs. Invisible Touch-Invisible Touch

Talk vs. We Can't Dance-We Can't Dance

Keys To Ascension (and everything after) vs. Calling All Stations (and the nothing that came after)-Too close but Both pretty meh.

So you see.....Genesis crushes yes.......hard......lol

Mick

Yes > Genesis across the board until we get to Big Generator vs Self-titled, then it's Genesis > Yes from there.

That was easy.

Note: Magnification > those 80's Genesis albums that won.

No way MR YES! I mea Mr Knot? NOT!!!!!

Gosh! All the stuff after "Big Generator" is crap.......

"CALLING ALL STATIONS" is one of the greatest albums on the earth!!! JMFO!!!

JUST MY FUCKKING OPINION!!!!!!

"NOT ABOUT US" NOT!

Calling All Stations? I honestly didn't know it even existed until this post. Somehow I missed it and thought it all ended with We Can't Dance.

As far as post-90125 Yes goes, Magnification is their best. And it's not too far off par with the golden Yes era.

I was excited about this album.

I have the UK limited edition of the cd in a purple jewel case.

I have the Japanese version in jewel case and in cardboard mini sleeve.

I still think the album sucks.
