I have to be in the right mood for Pepper.

it actually is.....out of every Beatles album.......my least played.

Mick

As an album...I really dislike it.

If I take just an EP's worth of tracks...I love it.

As a whole, it is my least favourite Beatles album. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it has a few of my favourite Beatles songs.

It occurs to me that for me, each of these bands is built for Best-of compilations. I don't find any album from either band to be an indespensible collection of songs. The White Album and Abbey Road side 2 are the closest to that, but their best songs still work just as well as a part of a collection.

Very different then, say, Rush or Pink Floyd. Or even bands like AC/DC or Van Halen.

Or Black Sabbath and Judas Priest!

In that case the Beatles would have 2 CDs packed with music while the beach boys might have 1 with some room to spare.

History agrees. The essential Beach Boys collection fits on the two LP Endless Summer album, whereas for the Beatles one should own both the red and the blue two-LP sets.

Pet Sounds is massively over rated. While it is a good album, it has not aged well enough to be considered among the greatest albums of all time, like Revolver is.

the other thing is........this applies to even the Beatles. Sometimes i think people let status of an album dictate their opinion. not saying always but it can happen.

I feel that's where a bunch of Pet sounds swooning comes from....the memory of it's place in history.

For a good five years it was the album that most spoken to me when I needed it.

But yeah I most certainly see where you are coming from!
