  1. Thanks for quoting me with the "Who the f**k is Pete Pardo?" 😄

  2. Judas Priest- Invincible Shield Well this album is not wearing me down one bit! I am playing it on Spotify (waiting for payday for CD purchases), and I love it right through to bonus tracks. Still hesitant to declare it "best album since Screaming For Vengeance", but why not? I think it is!

  4. Redeemer is the album that really got me back into Priest. Got into them after seeing them on Ram it Down. Collected their older work and loved it. Painkiller was a dud and was not into their Ripper era work. Angel I really enjoyed and Nostradameous was ok but some how I just had the feel that they were a group that was running out of gas. That they were just (mostly) running on the fumes of their past greatness. Enjoyed their live DVD's but they were winding down a great career. Then Redeemer came out and it really impressed me - way more than Nostradameous. Its on par with Angel which was their best work since Ram it Down. Then I picked up the live DVD from their show at Wacken when they played supporting that Redeemer. That show made me really take notice and it convinced me that adding Ritchie Faulkner had added some new gas to the tank. That they were a band that was not just running on fumes - they had something left. For me Redeemer is good and it was a start that got the engine revving up again. What has come since has been special. But no Redeemer then no Firepower etc. One just leads to the others. By the way - all the songs you mentioned get a heck yes from me.

  6. Well personally I like it, I think Firepower and Shield are better but to my ears it's a very cool album. Do you not even like Dragonaut? What about Cold Blooded? The Sword of Damocles? Or Halls of Valhalla and March of the Damned?

  7. Pardo hasn't been the same since he shaved off his ridiculous '80s mullet.

  8. How can a man who literally calls himself a square give a radical review?

  9. If it had more prog elements, we could get a grim review from Darren Lock as well

  10. There was a video where he introduced Maiden and was like "a British band, from England" And I was like...who the f**k watches these videos not knowing basic facts like that? He does that A LOT. "What we have here is a guitar solo". NO SHIT SHERLOCK, YOU'RE REVIEWING MALMSTEEN.

  12. I did not notice that (shame on me!!). Now I will just have to go listen to it again - o what a terrible fate (LOL). Actually I just got done listening to the album a 2nd time and Sons of Thunder is emerging (along with Gates of Hell, Crown of Horns, Escape From Reality, Giants In the Sky & Trial by Fire) as one of favorites from the album. Thats a lot of favorites but this is a heck of an album. Also listened to: Dio - Killing the Dragon Good album. No Holy Diver or Last in Line but its decent. Glad I found a vinyl copy. As I said, its my preference and it helps me enjoy the artwork.

  13. The Award for Best Supporting Actor goes to Robert Downey, Jr. for portraying Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer. His first Academy Award in three attempts. I haven't seen many of his films (Iron Man, The Avengers, The Pickup Artist....that's about it), and I haven't seen Oppenheimer, but I surely know great talent when I see it. The man is gifted. Acting talent and natural charisma. Even when accepting his first Oscar, he was (mostly) cool, collected and smooth.

  14. I'm a fan of Redeemer as well. I think it's weaker than the latter two, but it's still got some strong songs. The only song I had a negative reaction to was March of the Damned. But I also caught opening night of that tour so I my affinity for that album may be a bit biased because of that. Dragonaut was a great opener and it's still a favorite of mine. Halls of Valhalla also gets played a bit.

  15. Re: Painkiller you nailed it. That is what puts me off. It has its moments but overall no thanks. Sin after Sin - got to admit its been a while since I have listened to it. As I continue to unpack I will find my copy of it and give it another listen. With regards to Rocka Rolla, same thing. Need to find my copy and give it another listen. Been a while. As for Sad Wings - ironically I just pulled it out today and listened to it. Yes, I hear exactly what you are saying. Good songs - I enjoy them but they pale compare to the live versions due to poor production. I seem to recall thinking once "Thank goodness British Steel had the production it had. Its production was way better than the 1970's Priest work. So much of their 1970's work suffers from poor production." So I don't find your comment to be controversial at all - I sort of agree.

  16. I love Painkiller, but I find it a little lacking some of the qualities I love in Priest. It's not entirely one note, but close enough. I can hear what puts you off it! My personal favourite Priest album is Sin After Sin. Controversial opinion: I rank Sad Wings Of Destiny quite low, and Rocka Rolla quite high. Why? The songs on Sad Wings don't have the same magic on the album that they do live. I find the album versions nice enough, though.

  17. OMG!! I got to see Sabaton years ago in a club in NYC on the opening night of Nightwish's Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour and they were amazing. Never though I would get to see them ago. At the time I said it was like having Priest open for Rush - that was the dynamic in a way. Been hoping to see them again. Thanks for the awesome news!! This is great.

  19. I have long said I thought Firepower was their best album since Screaming For Vengeance and I would rank this on par with Firepower - that high praise in my book. Both are light years better than Painkiller which I rank as perhaps their worst Halford era work. I really don't care for it. So no disagreement here.

  20. Yeah they've done quite a few tours with these bands, and recently. I heard that it might be Sabaton who is the support band in the USA, in fact here it is:

  21. That would be amazing if that held to form in the US!!!! I recall Uriah Heep did open for them over here a few years ago (pre-pandemic) but due to a conflict I could not go to the show. I have a lot of Uriah Helps albums and would like to see them. Saxon is a band that, I am ashamed to say, somehow fell through the cracks with me. Never got into them but recently I had listened to a few of their songs on youtube and was like "These guys are another legendary band I missed out on - now I see what they were a big part of the MWOBHM. Got to explore them some more." Given their history, style of music and that they just released a new album I thought they would be a perfect match to tour with Priest - it was the combo I had in mind to tell the truth. Thanks - now I just have to get tickets and keep my fingers crossed.

  25. Maybe I should try it again, its actually not "awful", I will wash my mouth out for saying that, but after Angel and Nostradamus (oof...I like that a lot), it comes off a little closer to mid-tier Saxon to me.

  26. I think I'm Going Bald is f***ing good with a killer riff. It's better than crap like Bravest Face and Good News First by a few galaxies. Twilight Zone and Madrigal are good songs so is Chemistry. There's tons of other stuff that's worse than these like Rivendell and Nobody's Hero.

  27. Nice idea, even if you are bored! I definitely wouldn't have some of these tracks on a 'Worst Of' collection. Best I Can, Take A Friend, High Water, Sweet Miracle, The Stars Look Down and a few more wouldn't make my Worst of...Not sure what I'd replace them with - probably make it a 1 disc set instead.

  29. One unexpected song that keeps blowing me away is Fight of Your Life which is excellent. Other songs that particularly stood out to me today were Gates of Hell, Invincible Shield, Devil In Disguise and Serpent and the King.

  30. Every song is a favourite for me, if this was a 100 metre race, it would be a 14 song blanket finish! So the song in last place would be right up alongside the song in first place.

  33. Any idea who is opening for them? They are playing my home town in May and I very much want to see them but wondering who will be opening. No, I don't have tickets yet. Last time Queensryche (who I had never seen) opened for them. Hoping its another group I have never seen.

  35. I don't hate it at all, or Demolition. Every Time I ever play either, I think they are okay. Nothing to get overly excited about, but I do think Cathedral Spires is one of the best Priest songs.
