Thank you for hurting my brain again Entre_Perpetuo! I selected 1976 - 1985 Although I may have made it worse by limiting my selections to studio albums only. (no live albums or compilations). I also limited my selections to albums that we’re actually my favourite albums in the years chosen, not necessarily my favourite albums today. And I added the additional challenge of not repeating a band or artist throughout the 30 choices. Yikes!5 points

Toto-Toto (10/10) This is one of my fav debuts ever. After coming off Boz's Silk Degrees. these guys burst with an exiting hungry debut. In listening back it still has that Silk degrees vibe. With Bobby and steve and Dave ACTUALLY sounding very Boz-y on some tracks. So there is some hold over on this record. but it surprisingly has some of their more harder rock moments. i love this album so much. Mick4 points

Totally agree. All I was saying was that the limit made it more of a challenge. In my case, I could have listed 20+ for each of the early '70s years but just picked three that had great sentimental attachment at the time. But i have left out all sorts like Rory Gallagher, Wishbone Ash, Genesis, Uriah Heep, Queen, Boston etc etc which is no slight or oversight, just part of the fun!!3 points

Eh, I famously can’t answer the questions I ask in a lot of threads myself, so I’d rather someone participates and doesn’t stick to the “rules” than not post at all.3 points

This is an enormous question that has no good reason to be asked except that I like seeing what other people like. In case the question is worded confusingly, here's an example of what a post might look like. Btw, I'm picking albums off the top of my head for this example, these are absolutely not my final choices on these years... as if I could ever come to those, lol. 1975: A Night At The Opera, Physical Graffiti, Another Green World 1976: A Day At The Races, 2112, Jailbreak 1977: News Of The World, A Farewell To Kings, Animals 1978: Hemispheres, Jazz, U.K. 1979: London Calling, Breakfast In America, Lodger 1980: Permanent Waves, The Game, Zenyatta Mondatta 1981: Moving Pictures, Escape, Tattoo You 1982: Signals, Screaming For Vengeance, Abacab 1983: Genesis, Thriller, Synchronicity 1984: Grace Under Pressure, The Works, Purple Rain Yeah, absolutely not my definite final answers... though probably every single Rush and Queen album on there would be in my final answers, lol.2 points

I decided to do one of these from 1981-1990. In the '80s, there were a lot more classic c.ds, and albums like in the '70s. They aren't my favorite c.ds, and albums, but are my favorite, and some of my close, top favorite bands, groups, and artists, some of what I was listening, and I'm still listening to this day, and for '80's music, what stands out to me. I didn't include live, greatest hits', compilations', and EP's c.ds, and albums. I have left some out, but I can do another one for the same ten years, and a different ten years. (1981) Moving Pictures - Rush October - U2 Point of Entry - Judas Priest *High 'N' Dry - Def Leppard (1982) Signals - Rush Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest the Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden *Never Surrender - Triumph (1983) War - U2 Pyromania - Def Leppard Piece of Mind - Iron Maiden *Synchronicity - the Police (1984) Grace Under Pressure - Rush Defenders of the Faith - Judas Priest Powerslave - Iron Maiden *the Unforgettable Fire - U2 (1985) Power Windows - Rush Call of the Wild - Lee Aaron the Big Prize - Honeymoon Suite (1986) Turbo - Judas Priest Somewhere In Time - Iron Maiden Rage For Order - Queensryche (1987) Hold Your Fire - Rush the Joshua Tree - U2 Hysteria - Def Leppard *Lee Aaron - Lee Aaron (1988) Ram It Down - Judas Priest Seventh Son of A Seventh Son - Iron Maiden Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche (1989) Presto - Rush Bodyrock - Lee Aaron Rockland - Kim Mitchell *Simple Mission - Glass Tiger (1990) Empire - Queensryche Painkiller - Judas Priest No Prayer For the Dying - Iron Maiden *Monsters Under the Bed - Honeymoon Suite2 points

I nearly quit, but then decided you started the thread and we are both guilty of MASSIVE lists. Also, the way my brain works, it's near impossible to limit to three, as most of these albums I can't choose between. And I'm not starting a whole new thread 😀2 points

I'm on a bit of a Jimmy Eat World kick, and what is really standing out to me here is how I love everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Part of my musical DNA I think. So, here we go, starting with a three-way tie: 1. (Ranked in order of release) = Clarity- I could talk about this album all day. When people ask me what I think emo sounds like, I play them this. Nineties emo is not your modern emo, and that's sad. But the good thing is, there is PLENTY of great emo from this decade, and I think Clarity is potentially the greatest album in the genre that decade. = Futures- sometimes I think the production is too pristine, but from start to finish this is an exceptional album, bursting with life and all the emotions. Songs like Just Tonight, Kill, Polaris, Drugs Or Me and especially the album closer 23 are amongst my favourite of all time. But special mention must go to the bonus track Shame. If any song deserves to follow 23, its that one. Everything on this album is a blast, and in a year that gave us albums like Hot Fuss (The Killers), American Idiot (Green Day), In Love And Death (The Used), Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (My Chemical Romance), this one is my favourite. = Invented- I am shocked how much hate this album gets from the fanbase. To my ears, this is great enough for me to feel tempted to knock Clarity and and Futures down to 2, but at the same time, I also feel what makes it great is that this feels the most like both of them combined, with elements of Bleed American as well, that to me they all belong at the top together. Every single song here is a favourite of mine. Heart Is Hard To Find, Invented, Higher Devotion, Coffee And Cigarettes, Mixtape, Invented...this entire album is a MASTERPIECE of pop rock songwriting, and it has the best production in their discography. I just love it. 4. Bleed American- this is many fans favourite. Depending on how you choose to look at my rankings, it's wither second favourite or fourth. Everything here works. The songs, the sequencing, the production. But it lacks just a little something that my top three has in spades. And there are occasions I finish the album at around the midway mark. 5. Integrity Blues- there are a couple of songs that are so typically JEW I feel they could have been left off (Get Right especially) but the majority of the album is atmospheric, warm and creative. An underrated album, with one of their most catchy songs (Through). There is also a really strange song on the album that ends sounding like early Mastodon: Pass The Baby. Just a strange album, one that I feel has been underrated. Sure And Certain is another great song. 6. Static Prevails- strictly speaking, this isn't their debut, but considering there has never been a re-release of their self titled debut, and no songs are ever played live, and most fans don't seem to know that album exists, I will rank this in sixth place, and consider it their debut. The production is actually really stripped back here, but it sounds BIG for the genre as it was in the nineties. Raw, spikier songwriting than what we know now, this is Jimmy at their punky best, on an album full of classic tunes. Seventeen is my favourite, it even featured on the soundtrack for Never Been Kissed. I love this record, I just can't place it any higher than this. 7. Surviving- this is a testament to how great I think Jimmy Eat World is that I rate their latest album in seventh place. Its cliche to say, but had this been any other band it would be really high up my list. And honestly, if we compare the quality of this record with, say, Futures, it's startling to see how close they are in terms of brilliance. Jimmy only really do great albums. It's bands like this that leave me thinking a number rating is pointless. 8. Chase This Light- this is a sugar rush of an album, high energy for the most part, this is the most blatantly commercial and mainstream sounding Jimmy Eat World have ever sounded. Generally loved by fans, at the same time I doubt its many fans absolute favourite. I find the high energy production tends to wear me out long before its over. But my goodness, it's a delight! Big Casino, Always Be, Dizzy, Gotta Be Somebody's Blues, Carry You...and the exquisite bonus track Be Sensible are all indispensable classics. Not close to my favourite Jimmy Eat World album, but arguably one of my favourite albums of all time. Again, that says it all about this band and me. 9. Damage- a love/hate album. I really like it, but the album feels like a demo. I know many fans who loved the stripped back sound, and after the sugary overtones of CTL and then the lush, ambitious production values of Invented, I can see why. But if CTL is too overproduced for my tastes, then Damage is unfortunately too underproduced. Still, song for song, I love this album. I could champion the entire record if i dissect each track and shine a light on them independently. But as a full album, I wish for a little more ingenuity and nuance in the production. Some bands can release outstanding music in stripped back form (think: every emo band of the nineties, including Jimmy), but this is lacking. There we go, one of my top ten bands, any genre, and its always a delight to come back to Jimmy Eat World. They are the missing link between Biffy Clyro and Taylor Swift. Joys of joys!2 points

Very tricky this .... I have gone for 1970 - 1979 which were pretty much my musical formative years. However ...... to pick my favourite three from each year is proving impossible (particularly in the early to mid '70s). So I have picked three from each year which meant a lot at the time (for various reasons!!), but also stayed with me over the years. 1970 - Layla & Assorted Love Songs, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin III 1971 - Zeppelin IV, Who's Next, Hunky Dory 1972 - Close To The Edge, Ziggy Stardust, Harvest 1973 - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd , Billion Dollar Babies 1974 - Secret Treaties, Bridge Of Sighs, Burn 1975 - Physical Graffiti, Minstrel In The Gallery, Force It 1976 - 2112, Rainbow Rising, Sad Wings Of Destiny 1977 - Running On Empty, A Farewell To Kings, Marquee Moon 1978 - Excitable Boy, The Kick Inside, Stained Class 1979 - Breakfast In America, Black Rose, Rust Never Sleeps So much left out, but I will settle on this as a first try.2 points

These are the albums that got me through high school and college. I could list many more, especially in 1971-73, but these are the albums that really stood out for me. 1968 - Beggars Banquet, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, The White Album 1969 - Tommy, Led Zeppelin II, Ummagumma 1970 - Black Sabbath, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, Live At Leeds 1971 - Sticky Fingers, Who's Next, IV *** tough year to decide 1972 - Close To The Edge, Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust, Trilogy 1973 - House Of The Holy, DSOTM, Quadrophenia *** tough year to decide 1974 - Lamb Lies Down, Relayer, Get Your Wings 1975 - Physical Graffiti, The Who By Numbers, Wish You Were Here 1976 - Presence, Rocks, Trick Of The Tail 1977 - Animals, AFTK, Peter Gabriel2 points
