Its a long, convoluted, enigmatic path to my discovery of Rush. Turns out that I attended a Rush concert in '75 or '76 that I don't have any recollection of, paradoxically. Two years ago, some friends of my father told me that I went with them. No, I wasn't on drugs. Mind blown! I can recall hearing "working man" in 10th grade, but dismissed interest in Rush since the song seemed fairly unsophisticated/elementary. Then, in 11th grade, of all people, I asked a "jock" (who happened to always be nice to me) if he knew of any good rock 8-track tapes. He told me to get Atwas, by Rush. Said it was "awesome". Went out, bought it and the rest is history.3 points

Q: Do you believe in God? Alex: No.When I was younger I did. My mother is not super-religious, but she has a belief. My father was the total opposite. He though religion was a crock. In my early teens I started to question it all. I had friends who were Jesus freaks, others were just very spiritual, and we had these great long discussions about these things. But as I get older it just becomes a less and less sensible thing to think about.2 points

well, I hope it's more than a feeling, it's been such a long time.... and we're used to bad news2 points

My wife hates DT, and one of the many times I tried to get her into the band was showing her Solitary Shell. She heard the first chords and said "now we´re talking: Peter Gabriel! Oh wait..." :D :D2 points

The only reason I checked that link out is because treeduck mentioned sweaty knockers. I hope she's simply playing up a well-endowed dumb blonde role2 points

I very much approve of this angle shot. Whatever could you be talking about? Oh I know, it's artistic, right? :D I thoroughly enjoy seeing the underside of his guitar. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Man, do I ever love the underside of that guitar! I could stare at it for days :drool:2 points

I don't know why anybody who watched Breaking Bad would expect Better Call Saul to be a serious drama and not more comedy based.2 points

I agree. The pink is overkill. You can't watch an NFL game without pink first down lines, penalty flags, etc. I think it trivializes things. But that doesn't take away from the fact that breast cancer is a virulent disease, and I look forward to its' hopefully quick and permanent demise. I will refrain from comments on Komen to keep this out of SOCN.1 point
-
No f***ing way. I am so tired of the Komen et al juggernaut bombarding us with that "insipid pink" (as a late much beloved friend who died from breast cancer called it). Read up on Komen - Nancy Brinker and the top level execs of Komen have made a pretty nice living off Brinker's dead sister. They've managed to corner the market on cancer donations. It goes on all year long and gets worse in October. We're aware. Boy are we ever - we'd have to be blind and deaf to NOT be aware. I will give to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, who provided my brother in law with some much needed cash for his meds. He has multiple myeloma, Where is his special color and ribbon and yogurt lid? At least breast cancer can be cured - BIL has done relatively well with his disease for seven years, but it will kill him - he has already surpassed the mean survival time. There is no cure. Same with pancreatic cancer and I know WAY too many people with that. I do not mean to sound unsympathetic - I am not by any means. I prefer to be more hands-on with people I know personally that have been touched by bc (or any other). At least when I take them food, ferry them to and from treatments and sit with them at home to give the primary caregivers a break I KNOW where the effort is going. And I wouldn't trade those precious moments with my much-missed friend for anything in the world. Breast cancer isn't even the #1 cancer killer of women - lung cancer is. Oh but wait - they must've been smokers so they don't deserve help.1 point

I've got a Vapor Trails project on the way too. I'm rewriting the lyrics to all 13 songs! It's gonna be a concept idea telling the life story of rushgoober and why he hates the world so very much, but channels all the hate into an album by RUSH to keep himself from going off-the-rails apeshit and getting arrested. I'm gonna keep some of the lines in (such as "slack jawed gaze" and "The vacant laugh of true insanity" which seems appropriate for goober) but mostly it'll be all-new or slightly altered material! :P1 point
-
It's a bit long winded but what do you expect from Neil Peart disciple! :P1 point
-
I feel much this way, too. I always thought the songs on Vapour Trails were great, but I knew the record didn't sound like it should. I was so right. I've been moved to tears (in a life-affirming way, not a sad one) by moments on this version of the record several times during the week I've been listening to it. As many years as I've been a rock'n'roll fan, and as many ways as music has affected me, I don't think that has ever happened before. I may have missed the early days of glory, but 2007 was a great time to come in. I feel so fortunate to be a Rush fan during this phase of my life, and theirs :rush:1 point

Listen... All I know is RUSH are a heavy metal band that a bunch of new wave rejects and grunge freaks and alternative rock geeks have bandwagoned since the 80's!! I blame Signals!! They're metal and even Neil Peart knows it even if he denies it in public! :haz:1 point

I bought a pair of 8mm knitting needles and some beautiful fall yarn. My right index finger is bleeding under my nail and I have 4" of pattern now. It's pretty basic at the moment, but I can't wait to get the scarf done. I'm making an infinity scarf. Then I will crochet a matching hat. :D1 point

A Stunning work of art.I have been saying this for years!. Now maybe the Goobers and Trenkens of this world, will put a sock in it. ( I highly doubt it), afterall they have to hear themselves moan( blue blue moanin') :rush:1 point

Yup, that's what I was certainly getting on first listen. Thanks for posting that Tony...one of the most tasteful homages to Rush I've ever heard.1 point

I think its a big improvement, im very happy. I didnt expect it to change its ranking. When I look at an album, the songs are what they are, and that didnt change.1 point

Neils double kick Ludwigs and Tama's! Your Neil F'n Peart! ROCK DRUMMER not a wanna be DW drum JAZZ drummer. DW drums SUCK for want Neil Peart has gotten out of them. Like others have said, I miss the real key's especially the Moog Taurus Pedals. RUSH has never had the same live bottom end since retiring them back in 1990. God i hate SAMPLES!1 point

My first show was in '92, so I didn't get to see the really classic period Rush live... I was just too young. I got a few bootlegs though. My favorite is the St. Louis '80 show. Obviously, the setlist would be #1.... hearing anything from Kings or Hemispheres that they can't play anymore due to the vocals. The vintage equipment. The Ampeg stacks, the double-necks, the Moogs and Oberheims, the Taurus pedals, the Tamas and Slingerlands.1 point
