  1. Why Sorry? Them getting in doesn't change the fact the hall is garbage Yeah, none of us "cynics" are pissed or upset about this. It just doesn't mean a whole lot to us, that's all. It's fun to talk about on message boards, though. But let's not poop on this thread. Lots of Rush fans are celebrating this, and that's cool.

  2. It's become very obvious that the main impediment to Rush getting into the RRHOF was the NOMINATING COMMITTEE. The first time they actually get nominated and it's taken out of their hands, they're in. It's also obvious that the RRHOF nominating committee has been extremely biased for decades. Consider the major league baseball hall of fame - every year anyone eligible who is an obvious nominee gets nominated, as well as all the borderline players and a lot of other marginal players. Then it's up to the voters. But WHY did they get nominated this year? I'd say 4 main reasons, though not necessarily in this order. 1. LONGEVITY - Rush did not ever become a marginal band, a golden oldies band or retire. Sure, their studio output isn't what it was in terms of quantity, and not all their albums from the latter half of their years have been successful, but still they obviously keep giving it their all. They've persevered long beyond what anyone could have predicted, and overcome great tragedy in the process. 2. BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE - Could there be a greater argument for their induction in the rock and roll hall of fame than this amazing documentary? "And now, it's kind of like we're all so old that – even if you hated Rush in the 80s and the 70s – now you gotta give it up for 'em. You just got to! Or else you're just being an old dickhead." ~ Matt Stone 3. CLOCKWORK ANGELS - How many bands who have been making albums for 38 years make an album of this quality, ambition and relevance, an album that has garnered tons of critical acclaim, and that actually deserves it? No one, that's who. It just doesn't happen. 4. THE FANS - FAMOUS OR NOT - If you've followed blogs and news stories like I have for years, by FAR the biggest uproar about a band not being inducted yet into the RRHOF has been for Rush. Fans have long complained, and even started petitions, and tons of well-known people, including a shit ton of rock stars have pleaded their case. How long could that be ignored for? DISCUSS!

  4. Those two crazy kids just got married yesterday!!! I remember being there the first time they met. We all sparked a deep and wonderful friendship that night in the "creepy tunnel". The Digital Clan was born that day and 4 people managed to find their life partners as well. Love and happiness going out to them. They truly are meant to be and I'm very happy they finally are.

  6. It's such a pile of horseshit it means nothing to me. However, the late Donna Summer got in, so it ain't all bad. Nice to see it still excites you Goobs!

  7. I believe it was Cliff Burnstein, in B.T.L.S, who said a lot of the supposed geeks who grew up listening to Rush are now in positions of power... Producers, directors, writers...they have championed for the band.

  8. OH MY FRAKING GOD!!! I will be eating my crow with some bernaise sauce and the pig will be flying at 75 feet altitude. I had to read, then re-read, then re-re-read the news. Then, I reacted in a way I did not expect. I cried. Tears of joy. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/big/big-smiley-006.gif Yeah, it's several years too late, blah blah blah, but still... this is pretty f***ing cool! :haz: :D :D :D :7up:

  9. Agree with everything you mentioned. It kind of all just kept snowballing until the ball got so fukking huge it ran over the "old dickheads". It certainly doesn't hurt that they've gotten a LOT more mainstream exposure in the last 8 or so years. It also doesn't hurt that they consistently STILL sell 10,000 to 20,000 tickets every night when most of their contemporaries play casinos and state fairs. That's hard to ignore forever.

  10. This would be my guess. But what would really be fitting would be Wish Them Well! Good call! Very good call! Nice! I was thinking "La Villa." Give 'em something amazing that's NOT played on the radio, something to make the uninitiated go "Holy shit, those boys ARE good!"

  12. I've been trying to figure out how they can do a performance along with some of the other inductees... It's hard, maybe Roll the Bones with Public Enemy doing the rap part?

  13. Something new, something long, something the world is not ready for quite yet, but interesting enough to chew on for a long time. possibly 40 more years, and thats why I like Rush....it takes a long time to chew and the flavor lasts TKR

  14. While I'm a member of the "I don't care" club, I'm happy about this for two reasons. First, it gives them credibility and visibility to everyone else who may visit the HOF and or care about this kind of thing, and second, if Rush is happy about this then I am very happy for Rush. So.. HUGE Congrats!

  19. Future Rock Legends was saying it would be unlikely that Rush and Deep Purple would BOTH be inducted the same year. No Deep Purple? Maybe it's because Rush bumped them! People have to cry about something! Sorry for Deep Purple. Just be happy for RUSH and Heart! :dweez:  Cry ??? Not really . DP should have been in years ago, Before Rush . Do your f*ckin homework

  20. Right. Public Enemy, too. I like PE and recognize their importance to the hip-hop genre, but they're in before DP?

  23. They wouldn't be the only band. In 2006, the Sex Pistols were inducted but refused to attend the ceremony. They sent a letter, calling the RNRHOF "a piss stain." And I think I came across an article earlier today wherein Axl Rose told the Hall "don't induct me, I won't come." This is from a Guitar World interview from this year (though I don't know if it was before or after Rush got nominated), and it isn't the first time Alex has made these types of comments about the RRHOF: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: I mean, everybody knows you guys should be in by now. Does it bother you that you’re not? Do you care? I really don’t care. I look at it like this: Last week we received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement, which is a very high honor in Canada. And we were also inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame, and all those sorts of things. So, in that sense, I’m quite satisfied with those accolades, particularly the Governor General’s Award. That puts us in the company of some of the greatest Canadian creative minds of the last 20 years, since they started this. I really don’t feel the need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because, at the end of the day, it’s just somebody’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have a particular process, and they’re welcome to do it however they want to do it. If they feel that they want to exclude a certain genre or certain bands from their hall of fame, they’re welcome to do it. I don’t need to be in there. I have no interest in going there. I think that so long as we keep this relationship, we probably both benefit. If Rush is not in there, the controversy continues, and it keeps Rush fans very pissed-off. There’s some great bands in there that I really respect. Just recently, it was great to see the Chili Peppers get in—I love those guys. But I don’t need it. I have no interest in going, and hope that we never will. If I was a Rush fan, I’d be like, “No man, don’t do it. Let’s keep this to ourselves, this little special thing.” I'd guess this was BEFORE they were nominated. Yeah yeah, we all know Alex has said this several times in interviews, and there's also a notorious Neil comment to the effect of "they think we're not cool enough, but that's okay, because THEY'RE not cool enough for US." Even the band's gracious public statement when accepting the nomination had an undercurrent of "we don't want this." The statement read "we know this is important TO OUR FANS." (Subtext: it's not important TO US.) So, what's your point? Awww, are you okay? :( My point, or really Alex's point, is that getting into the RRHOF doesn't mean much anymore because of the subpar bands they're letting in now, and because of the biased nomination process. Guns 'N Roses do not belong in there, yet they were inducted before Rush and KISS and Deep Purple were even nominated? That make sense to you? That's why Rush couldn't care less about getting in, and why a lot of their fans feel the same way. Alex sure didn't downplay the Governor General’s Award they just received. Or getting into the Canadian Hall of Fame. They seemed pleased with getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And so on.

  26. Not me... Rush being excluded from the RRHOF has become part of the band's identity, and at this point I'd rather them not be in there. Rush is an institution unto itself and does not need the RRHOF. I'd rather the two continue having nothing to do with each other.

  28. Going to set up an appointment with the behavioral services director at a school I'm hoping to volunteer at tomorrow. Judging by the emails I exchanged with the staff, I think things are looking on the up. This is great, one step closer to my career. In fact, this will be my second official professional step, I'm going to learn and love a lot... I can't wait, I'm truly excited :) Just need to get my insomnia under control again...

  29. You guys, I'm really bumming hard about this hiatus and SW's newfound boredom of metal. The Incident was so f***ing awesome, this live release is amazing, and we still have no idea when PT will be back. And if they do come back, what kind of music will it be? SW's other stuff is great, but I can't enjoy it as much as the PT stuff. Please please please let them come back!!! I'll stop drinking now.

  35. I've only purchased two current albums in 2012: #1 - Clockwork Angels (their finest, imho) #2 - Muse, The 2nd Law - a textured and rich melodic beauty. I love this album and think Matt Bellamy is an amazing artist. I've heard the Black Keys. They're good, but not really my thing. I'm not really "prog" or "metal" (I have my leanings) but my friends describe me as the rocker chick. I like what I like and appreciate many, many genres. I try to stay current but sometimes it is difficult to listen with open ears. VH - I heard and did not like Tattoo. A lot. The other tracks sounded good but I wouldn't (and won't) buy it because of the Wolfgang nonsense. I really like VH and enjoyed Van Hagar, but their time has past, imo. The new stuff, for me, - meh. Aerosmith - I haven't really enjoyed an album from Aerosmith since Toys. PV wasn't bad (I liked Ragdoll). The new one - meh. Rush consumed 2012 for me. Not a bad way to spend half a year. :)
