Hmm reading through the topic I see that Dog Years takes the crown as the most disliked Rush song.. Have to give it another listen or two - I'm only a newborn Rush fan so I haven't studied everything properly.

Was gutted to see Different Strings mentioned. That song is THE BEAUTY!

I don't count "Rush" because I frankly don't know much about it other than a couple of the concert staples so it's out, plus it's not really Rush to me. I don't count Feedback either.

Here we go, starting with FBN:

Rivendell

In The End

Manhattan Project

Second Nature

Chain Lightning

Superconductor

Anagram

Hand Over Fist

Red Tide

Roll The Bones

Face Up

Where's My Thing?

The Big Wheel

Heresy

Neurotica

You Bet Your Life

Nobody's Hero

Speed Of Love

Double Agent

Leave That Thing Alone

Cold Fire

Everyday Glory

The Color Of Right

Virtuality

Resist

Limbo

Carve Away The Stone

Out Of The Cradle

Faithless

Bravest Face

We Hold On

Lots of chum beginning with Presto.

Thanks for the excuse, Beers! biggrin.gif Actually I was gonna start such a thread if I didn't find one.

These Rush songs are not in my library. I do not want to hear them. The first is angry.gif Tai Shan, angry.gif which takes the barfcake, and the rest are chronological. Panacea gets an honorable mention because I want to make an edit of Lamneth without it; I've already made myself an edit of Roll the Bones.

Rivendell

I Think I'm Going Bald

A Passage to Bangkok AND The Twilight Zone, hate me all you want

Open Secrets

Superconductor

Red Tide

Nobody's Hero (I Am Homosexual And I Hate This Song. "Pat us on the back for not hating queers, yay us!" The most irritated I've ever been at Neil.)

Speed of Love

Leave That Thing Alone (just studio; I listen to multiple live recordings of it)

Everyday Glory

Dog Years

Virtuality

ALL of Feedback EXCEPT Seven and Seven Is

Faithless

Bravest Face

Good News First

Interesting. I never saw it like that. Neil was actually writing about a friend that he had when he was living in London in his early 20's. He lost touch with him, and then found out that he had passed away from complications due to AIDS.

"As the years went by, we drifted apart

When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart..."

Maybe I just see it from a different perspective. confused13.gif This is actually the song that made me sit up and take notice of Rush. I heard them before, but when I heard this on the radio it was so different from all the other crap at the time (Nirvana 062802puke_prv.gif was really popular, and I wasn't into the whole "Seattle Scene") that I just HAD to know who these guys were.

Not trying to change your mind...just making an observation.

Haters gon' hate on my favourite songs, it seems!

Anyways, since most of us are making list, I may as well too...

- Pretty much all of the first album except "Working Man", but "In the Mood" tops my list of REALLY CAN'T STAND IT.

- "The Twilight Zone" :: I used to like this song okay, but after too many times it grew to be quite annoying. =/

- "Tears" :: Love Geddy's voice in this song but the instrumentals annoy me..

....And that's really it.

I'm sure if I went back to some the albums I haven't heard in a while I'd come up with some more, but there are some songs I like the instrumentals enough that it makes up for any lyrics I don't care (and this isn't the case often...).

My least favorite:
Natural Science (I don't HATE it per se, it's just too long and never really clicked with me)

Tai Shan (the synth pan flute in the beginning is a red flag indicating "Boring song ahead!")

Red Tide

Speed Of Love

Animate (it just goes on too long and the lyrics are dumb)

Virtuality (liked it initially, but boy oh boy does it sound dated now)

Ceiling Unlimited (too loud fast and noisy)

Peaceable Kingdom (Geddy, please sing instead of chanting)

Vapor Trail (its OK in parts, but the lack of melody makes it really draggy and monotone)

Nocturne (more badly produced noise from Vapor Trails)

Out of the Cradle (see above)

Pretty much EVERYTHING on Snakes And Arrows with the exception of Far Cry, Spindrift and MalNar. I don't like midtempo whiny songs with no hooks or melody, and I don't like an entire f***ing album of them.
When Rush gets back to writing interesting songs again, please let me know. angry.gif

Please stay in the dark, I'll take your next ticket. cool.gif

Glad someone else started this thread, I was thinking of doing the same.

There is one track that really winds me up and it's always the bloody one that your Rush-hating (tone deaf Kiss Fan) mates keep referencing.

Everyone has bad days and wishes there was an Undo button on the application of life and while most of the stuff is top notch aural Viagra, some of it can be the audio equivalent of an ear full of cold shower.

So which is it?

Just hearing "Rivendell" on Planet Rock today has reminded me how bad this song is.

Now I'm a mad, bad, sad Rush fan and not against a bit of Tolkien, but this was too cheesy even for my nerdy roots. It's the lyrics, (Sorry Pratt) that just don't work. Guitar work fine, vocals - nice change of range and pace, but cheese factor 10.

Still better than "Misty Mountain Hop" and the "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" though...

I think so far consensus is Dog Years.....But as for me it's Big Money. I can't stand that song for some reason! I absolutely loathed the video as well, back in 85' (I think). I go get my beer at that time, when it's played in concert.

But so what....... You know, Rush puts themself out there..... and 9.9 times out of ten, they pull it off! Gotta love 'em! :rush:
