Once when I visited my cousin on Long Island he had some stuff called Genessee Cream Ale and it was disgusting so avoid that stuff like the plague!

If its fresh its not too bad. I actually will buy genesee products when i am in the area, more out of nostalgia than for taste though. I can buy Genesee here but won't pay a premium for it.

The cream ale is somewhat infamous for its ability to make you fart like a horse, hence the term " genny screamers"!

Pretty sure i have posted in here before but at present time Yuengling is the best cheap beer going IMO.

This stuff must not have been fresh, then! laugh.gif

Have you ever walked near a woman who's using hairspray and accidentally inhaled through your mouth and you get that funky sharp taste in your throat? That's what Genessee tasted like to me. I took one swallow and nearly gagged.

Then again it may have been fresh. Its got a distinct/acquired taste and it tastes exactly the same it does now as it did when i was a teenager 25+ years ago.

I was drinking this stuff in the buffalo area and all my friends in buffalo think it tastes like shit and give me grief for even buying some!

I have had some micro-brewed cream ales that were excellent.

A few years after I had visited my cousin I was living in North Carolina and I had a buddy who was from Rochester, NY. He went home for a visit and brought back some Genessee and was looking forward to sharing it with me because he knew I liked unique beers. It about broke his heart when I explained to him that I couldn't stand it. I felt bad, too, because it was a damn nice gesture. I bought him a bottle of his favorite scotch, Glenmorangie (which I had never tried) and had a glass with him to make it up to him and he appreciated it. Kevin and I stayed in touch until he passed away fifteen years ago. I still enjoy a glass of Glenmorangie every now and then and toast his memory every time I do.

Here's to absent friends, in memory still bright.

they sell shaefer around the corner at the bodega.

best cheap beer ever.

I had a schaefer about a week ago, a friend of the husband's brought some over. I had to have an actual beer, as I only remember taking a sip of my dad's beer as kid and saying, "Eeeewww, how do you drink this stuff?"

So I tried schaefer as a 40 year old and...

I'll take a shaefer over a bud any day! trink39.gif

the key with decent tasting cheap beer is you have to drink it ice cold.

next time you're shoveling snow leave a six pack in the snow. once you're done shoveling a ton of snow and your back is killing you, pull yourself a beer out of the snow. it will taste like liquid gold.

I had a Natural Light the other day. Not too bad for cheap beer. trink38.gif biggrin.gif trink39.gif

brain fart from 25 years ago!

"Taste is why youll switch...

To Natural Light....

Taste is why youll switch..."

Remember the jingle? I do.

It was implied back in the early 80s that "switching" meant from Miller's Lite who owned light beer at the time...

rofl3.gif I don't remember that but it reminds me of the Tareyton cigarette ads. "Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch". tongue.gif

Hey,

Those of w/ kids (and some w/o) find themselves low on cash or on a budget.

I was just curious to see what other people drink when money is an issue.

Sorry in advance to all those beers I left out that you all think should have been included.

Hey! I've always liked Keystone Beer, which is actually a Coors product.

Actually though I have had one of those brews in years.
