rftag
Oh boy, too many to count. Cygnus X1, The Voyage: Actual lyric: All who dare to cross her course What I heard: God who dared to cross a cult Temples of Syrinx: Actual lyric: We are the priests of the temples of Syrinx What I heard: We are the priests of the devil, I'm serious [Of course at the time - very young kid - had misconstrued the red star of the federation as a satanic pentagram so the power of suggestion was doubtless at play] Freewill: Actual lyric: Genetic blends What I heard: Je ne te plains ("I don't complain" in French, with the required final "pas" omitted) I could go on and on but I'll stop here for now. Rutlefan
There was (or maybe still is) a video of Red Barchetta on You Tube "with lyrics". Instead of "... from a better, vanished time" the lyrics read "... from a better-managed time." Struck me that even if it sounds that way to someone, "better-managed time" makes no sense coming from Libertarian-leaning Neil (who'd doing the managing, and of what?), and certainly doesn't fit the underlying theme of the song (individual liberty vs the regulatory State). Some people shouldn't take it upon themselves to transcribe lyrics for public use. Edited August 18, 2016 by Rutlefan

Misheard lyric: "Well, I know they've always told you/SELF-Expression'S wrong..." And who could forget "Wonders OF the world..." But considering that in Ayn Rand's book "Anthem" self-expression was not just wrong, but A CRIME PUNISHABLE BY DEATH, it still fits!

ST3V
I started getting my uncle into Rush, and he told me when he heard New World Man he mistaked the line "Tuned to factories and farms" for "He's a factory tampon". He couldn't stop laughing about it for the rest of the day when we told me about it

New World Kid
I've had plenty of these over the years, but one that sticks with me because it actually seemed to add something was... I was about 14 when I first heard Vapor Trail, and the line "Memory written on the wind" I heard as "Merrywittan on the wind." Obviously a Merrywittan isn't a thing, but I thought it was some reference to literature, as Neil often does. And so in my head, I was coming up with all sorts of different ideas for what a creature a Merrywittan was.

Geddyleegenes
"He's a lot more afraid of your lion" I know that's not it, but when I'm in the car, singing along with it, I always sing, "He's a lot more afraid of your lion... and your tiger and your bear" Not misheard, no. I just get a kick out of it. It makes me laugh. Sort of a personal nod to Wizard of Oz in a way.
