  1. Note for note on all instruments and vocals! This guy is a freak.
  2. Hey NoahLutz thanks for listening! It's interesting to hear your thoughts, others have told me it takes a few listens to get into. A bit like Rush perhaps (I wish!) cheers
  3. Hi all Rush fans! This is my band "The Twisted Mile'' hailing from Perth, Western Australia. As you will no doubt tell I am a huge Rush fan! The Album opens in the prog rock, instrumentally focused bent (yes indeed, an exercise in self indulgence!), but I have a mellower, folksier streak shown as the album continues. I hope you have a listen and enjoy! Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/7DJXB2tLJzrYvRwnFnq4vf... 4. It's definitely cringey. Shout and scream at a gig all you like but this in an interview.
  5. Agreed. They can call themselves Rush. They are 2/3 of the band and don't need to pack it in because their beloved member passed away. I would like to think Neil wouldn't disapprove. What is wrong with carrying on the dream? They had a drummer before Neil. Life is short and they are entitled to another chapter.
  6. I tend to agree. Whilst clever and interesting in their own right the lyrics didn't really suit hard/ prog-rock for my tastes, but I guess it's another element to what makes it 'Rush'.
  7. I think his influences were literary authors rather than song writers. He mentioned F Scot Fitzgerald and Hemingway in interviews when changing from his fantasy based style in the 70's.
  8. Why would he make it up? His anecdote about accidentally hitting Alex when getting an autograph back in the 70's seemed genuine to me. Would be pretty superficial to invent that story.
  9. Dont think that is him on the left. Pretty sure he never played a strat with that hair. Wrong era.
  10. I hated his live bass sound in the later years. Tinny or something.
  11. I can t believe he would sell that 335. His first label purchased guitar when they got signed. I hope he doesn’t regret giving it up…seems irrational
  12. He does seem bitter but I don't know why. He was able to find wealth and success despite being booted out. Think of the musicians like Brian Jones and the Beatles' first drummer who had to watch on from obscurity. He should get over it!
  13. ...and when he learnt to 'swing' through the Freddy Gruber thing his drumming and Rush's music suffered. Yeah, isn't there a story when they all reconvened after his lessons and tried to play together (maybe in the TFE sessions) but couldn't? Alex said, "I don't know what you're doing anymore," or something like that. Personal note: I'm a novelist and writer, and sometimes the reviews of my books will directly contradict one another. It's like Goldilocks and the Three Bears: literally "This book moved too slow" vs "This book moved too fast". In short, there is no satisfying everybody, so might as well just satisfy yourself, then see who likes it. Which is EXACTLY how Rush did it. I'm not sure about Alex but I know I did :P

  15. I think Power Windows is the best album the band recorded and the peak of their career, so I disagree. I think most would disagree that Power Windows was the peak of Rush's career.
  16. As the recognized TRF authority on The Synth Era. I’ll have you know it starts with Signals, although that is quality Broone Era stuff. It also includes Presto. While on the subject only knuckle dragging cavemen can’t appreciate The Synth Era’s greatnesses. I actually had Presto in the Synth Era but I removed it because I wasn't sure. But I'm pretty sure Permanent Waves had Synths in it so I put it first. As I think about it, I have really always seen two eras being 1. Broon and 2. post-Broon. Broon = good, post- Broon = bad (except for GUP and a few songs here and there). I think if they let Broon stick around their synth era would have been way better, in the vein of Jacobs Ladder/PeW, rather than the soft 80's rock that emerged.

    Hating Rush

It's Geddy's voice more than anything. I always thought they would be as huge as Pink Floyd, Stones or Led Zep if they had a more accessible singer. Wouldn't switch out Geddy for quids though, I love them as they are. Keeps the casuals away from our favorite band!
  18. Who thinks they changed the cover for the 40th anniversary for fear of being cancelled? The raised skirt and panties is pretty innocent by any day's standards but I'm thinking they thought it might be viewed as in poor taste. It's a shame, it's their best album and best cover! :(
  19. They lost some of their inventiveness, sure. It happens to everybody. You can only be the hot new sound for so long. Billy Corgan said the peak lasts seven years, maximum. However, Ged became a much better conventional singer starting with HYF thru Counterparts. So they gained that. And these days I listen to post-1980 Rush more than 70s Rush, if that means anything. Yep they had a good run. Absolute gold from '75 - '84. There is more substance to their material in this era than whole genres of other music. I give the later era a go every now and then and can only pick a handful of songs I truly enjoy: Mission, Marathon, Animate.
  20. 75 - 84, FBN - GUP. I just don't understand how you could have the passion for any following period that I have for this period. They lost something...
  21. Countdown is mostly cringey but the outro is Rush at their finest.
