Lost In Xanadu Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Rock stations are dying. Effing country taking over, stations I knew to be rock at one time are now country. I used a site called radio locator while my wife drove to find stations in the area... 1, maybe 2 rock stations in the list of dozens in the area. :( Always liked the variety radio stations give, guess I have to connect the ipod
Verena Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Things change but I dislike the idea of rock radio stations die. I belong to the time where people/ bands are promoted this way. Hopefully some or few will last. We do need them. 1

Lorraine Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) Wait one minute. You drove 12 hours across the country and didn't swing by to visit me? Edited April 13, 2016 by Lorraine
laughedatbytime Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 It surprises me that country has so many fans. It's what mainstream pop (the white part of it at least) was 20-30 years ago.

Tombstone Mountain Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 It surprises me that country has so many fans.A lot of people living between towns and cities. Country isn't really country anymore though. 1
Chicken hawk Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Everything changes...not always for the good either! 2
Ancient Ways Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 We have at least 4 just here in Tampa. 97.1, 98.7, 97.9, 107.3 1
HemiBeers Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I actually don't play the radio 99% of the time. Occasionally I'll pop in a CD or hook up the MPEG for really long drives. I enjoy the solitude of driving in quiet and all the music distracts me from the voices in my head.
Lost In Xanadu Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Country isn't taking over. Pop and rap are.not where we drove! Like 60% of the stations were country

EagleMoon Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Pittsburgh still has a few rock stations and so does Cincinnati. 1
x1yyz Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I had heard that radio in general was dying. (I personally haven't really listened to commercial radio for any length of time since the 80s.)
The Analog Cub Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 (edited) Country isn't taking over. Pop and rap are.not where we drove! Like 60% of the stations were country Did you drive through Iowa? Because then it would make sense. We have a select few rock stations, one of which is the shitty grunge station, one is an awesome rock station that plays everything from the 60's to new stuff, and a "mommy rock" station where they play all the one hit wonders and Foreigner, and any song that has the word "damn" or "hell" in it gets bleeped out. LittleRushmonkey Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 The UK's radio stations seem to be devoted to crappy pop and rap music. The closest we get is the Bob Harris show which I don't like, although he did interview Steven Wilson last week which was cool :) . 1
