Ever since the release of Permanent Waves so I guess since she the 1970's.

You mean the 80's since Permanet Waves wasnt released until 1980.

No I meant the 70's. ;)

Odd considering 1980 is in the 80's.

As there was no Year 0, technically 1980 is the last year of the decade that began with 1971.

One weekend night in 1977 I caught them on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert - I was 9 or 10, and enjoying my favorite thing to do - staying awake into the wee hours of the night watching horror films and bands

I first saw 'em live in 1980 - it was akin to a spiritual experience

1977, that would have been either one of the AFTK or Xanadu videos (Rush playing on a stage along with the studio tracks). I saw AFTK on Don Kirshner. I freaked out. If I had seen Xanadu I would have had a stroke.

Yeah, perfect Saturday night for a twelve year-old: seeing Rush on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, followed by Gargoyles (the '72 movie) or The Omega Man on the Midnight Movie.

I LOVED that movie

The end of the first decade was Year 10. The end of the second decade was Year 20. Unless a year got deleted somewhere along the way, there is no way in hell a 0 year could suddenly take place of a 01 year.

Those dictionaries made an error as dumb as the claim the earth is flat.

Too funny. Cranking rush and watching creepy movies were the good old days for me too. Creature feature!

It all started when I convinced my Dad to stay awake and let me watch Night Of The Living Dead - he fell asleep before they even got out of the graveyard, and I was stuck watching alone .. lol ... I must have been 7 or 8

Been a film fanatic ever since

That's right. Keep arguing with DD. He's trying to get to 6000 posts by the 22nd of December! :)

Perhaps he needs to worship at the church of Zedlix.

Myles. I love ya but stop.

Find me a year 0 that proves year 01 was the second year of the first decade.

I'm only 15, and I first listened to Rush around eight, but didn't really become obsessed with them until last year, and then I saw them in R40.

At least it's good to know not everyone in my generation listens to garbage.

Whenever the subject of Permanent Waves comes up, and whether it is a 70s or 80s album, and there is endless banter about it, I'm just going start posting pictures of The Bay City Rollers

Welcome to the forum, Analog Teen. Since you're new here, let me ask you this important question: would you consider an album that was written, recorded, mixed, mastered, and packaged in 1979 a 70s album? Makes sense, no? Would you say that the decision to release it, say, the first week of January 1980 was probably more just a marketing move? It would be kind of silly to say that an album that was completely finished before the year 1979 rolled into 1980 is an "80s album," wouldn't it? I'm just asking, because some people think that Permanent Waves is an "80s album" just because it was released on the first day of the new decade, or whatever. Also, since we're getting you nicely settled in, you'd have to agree that Hemispheres rocks the most righteously of any album, wouldn't you?
