GabesCavesOfIce
So please enlighten me. Why is Xanadu so revered by so many? I like the track, don't get me wrong. I'm just wondering why it's such a hallmark for so many. They have better tunes, IMHO. :) VS, its artistic, it rocks hard, its slow, its fast, it crescendos, it decrescendos, ya know, all the cool stuff they did back before they were sophisticated. Digital Dad
Not buyin it. Just dont think they would recap their careers output opening with cuts off a marginally well received recent album Damn was I wrong or what?? :outtahere:
Jhill
Well, here's the deal. I had to stop posting because my Guest WIFI got real slow. first of all, yea the set list was basically as advertised. It looks like they will be moving some songs in and out. for instance I'm sure by now you know, but they only played 3 from CA. and the reason they opened with cuts off a marinally well received recent album is because they started from the newest and worked backwards to RUSH (the first album). So in that regards is makes some sense. But Holy Moly!!!!! I'm sure by now all have seen, but they actually played Anthem in it's entirety.!!!! and Lakeside Park!!! Are you kidding me? it was truly a night to remember. I have got to score some more tickets for the Dallas or KC shows. I'll just go ahead and get this off my chest, but the best parts for me was 1. they chose RB from MP as the second cut besides Tom Sawyer. Love that2. Neil's double bass Slingerland3. Hemispheres Prelude / Cygnus. Even after Neil's solo they broke back into the last of Cygnus. (In F----ing creadible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)4. Xanadu in it's full glory5. 2112 TO INCLUDE IV Presentation. Yea, I'm not kidding..... IV Presentation!!!!6. Oh let me back up Jacobs Ladder with a laser show that killed. So after 2112 your thinking, good night it's done.? 7. Lakeside Park8. Anthem9. What your doing... yea... WHAT YOUR DOING!!!!10. Working man No words for how awesome last night was. They did everything as with was purely written. No stupid freakin Regge intro bull Sh-t... Note for note as it was written. The sound started off kind of muddy and not great, but the sound engineers did a good job taking care of it, and by before intermission is was pretty well under control To all who are going.... Enjoy!!!! it's truly difficult to describe. AND YEA, IF YOU LIKE THE 70'S RUSH.... BRACE YOURSELF!!!!

pfrushfan0122
I was honestly surprised when I saw that CA was the opener... It was funny, we were stage side and we could see what was on stage before anyone else

It was funny, we were stage side and we could see what was on stage before anyone elseYea, they could have opened with Headlong Flight, maybe played one more from CA, and moved on. Then on down in the first set maybe something else from Grace Under Pressure or Signals. Whatever, it's all good, it's RUSH
Londonguy1
I wish Xanadu would've had the studio ending. The played the whole thing and then cut it off.
The K Man
Love this set list, but after hearing the boot last night, let's be clear: Lakeside Park and Anthem are NOT being played in full. Lakeside Park was played for a little over two minutes and when it would normally go into the mellow section, segued into Anthem, which had the final verse omitted. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to death that both are being played, but neither is being played from start to finish as is.

Principled Man
So please enlighten me. Why is Xanadu so revered by so many? I like the track, don't get me wrong. I'm just wondering why it's such a hallmark for so many. They have better tunes, IMHO. :)Well, we will have to disagree Bard. Xanadu is my favorite Rush song. It just embodies everything the band stands for. Ultimate Prog Rock Classic. Rush's Magnum Opus. Music is subjective, so everyone will have their own favorite. But, for me it's their best tune. Yes.......Xanadu is their signature prog rock song (but we can also include Hemispheres and a couple others) It represents their "Golden Age" - that is, the late 70's era. Rock posters everywhere show the band with their doublenecks and Neil's classic drum kit with the tubular bells. Xanadu showed just how limitless prog rock can be. The sounds, the textures, and the mystical nature of the music and lyrics all make it a truly epic song.
Del_Duio
Even after Neil's solo they broke back into the last of Cygnus. (In F----ing creadible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) That's probably the best part of the show for me, especially during Tulsa. I would've lost money that they'd go back into the ending, which is the best part of the song IMO. bluefox4000
Xanadu is one of the most perfect prog songs ever written and i'm thrilled to get it this tour. Mick
Lorraine
Xanadu is ageless. Not many bands have a song like Xanadu to their credit. I have a very vague memory of hearing it once while in a record store in Greenwich Village in the late seventies. The next time I heard the song was a few years ago. It's magnificent. When it comes to Xanadu, there aren't enough superlatives to describe it.
