The Analog Grownup
I don't need the shitty RS site. The real thing: http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh597/greyfriar2112/VaporTrailsremix_zps72309b06.jpg Damn it, I hate you :P But in all seriousness, how is the aural quality of the vinyl? :)

Astroboy2112
Blown away! I didnt like Chiki's remixes when those came out, i thought he moved away from the heavyness of the record, but this is truly a helluva job by that David dude. He kept the badass hard rocking feel intact yet everything sounds cristal clear without distortion and he also took some smart liberties with the arragements that I'm really impressed by. It's not just a remix, it's truly much more than that. I always been a believer in this album and now that it has been elevated hopefully the naysayers will finally see the beauty of it too. Amazing, amazing job. Now remix Presto and get this guy onboard for the new album!

Such an amazing record but it could sound A LOT better.

Alsgalpal
Secret Touch. I'm just going to quit with the blow by, *ahem* blow play of the album and just come to the general consensus that it f***ing rocks. It's so much better. I'm going to quit now while I still have friends!!! :poke:
Bangster of Goats
I bet VT remix sounds better than CA. Bottrill needs to produce the next Rush album! All I can say is, I was able to listen to this mere webstream of the VT remix a couple times in a row without feeling aural fatigue whereas CA starts tiring out my ears halfway through a whole-album listen. And I agree, the boys totally need to nab him for the next studio album (assuming there is one!)

kaihandberg
Oh wow.. I got so excited by listening to this, I actually had to register and post. (Been lurking on and off for years...) First let me get pretentious for a minute and claim that this is the rush Phoenix rising from the ashes, heard here in its true form - and that is glorious indeed, and cause for celebration! Secondly, I am a mixing and mastering engineer of zero renown, but I am at least somewhat able to articulate what I feel is going on with this new mix/master - so let my try. (Mr. Emperors new clothes a**hat, pay close attention and you might learn a thing or two...) I imported samples from the original release and the stream (with however its encoded onsite) into my system and started doing a few A/B tests. The difference was immediately apparent; but the numbers said something else - the peak and RMS volume levels were almost identical. The now sadly familiar sound of harsh overly digital processing has all but vanished in these new mixes. EQ/BalanceThe highs are no longer annoying - they do what they are supposed to do; shimmer.High mids are clearer and more defined, without question.Mid seperation is now ALOT clearer and more evident, you can HEAR that there are different instruments that all live in their seperate spaces. The 2002 release had all sounds at near the same volume, with nasty digital processing distortion present throughout. The low mids again have a great separation between the bottom edge of Alex' guitar and the tone of Geddy's bass. The lows are much more defined, smoother and well rounded, with both tone and providing weight to the bass and kickdrumDynamicsOh my god, we can hear transients again! Its a miracle! - the separate kick/snare/tom hits are NOT all the exact same volume, and since they now have room to breathe have a lot more WEIGHT to themThe low end instruments (Kick and Bass, and to a lesser degree snare and the guitar "crunch") Live in far better harmony resulting in a much more solid low end - the woofers actually move WITH the rhythm, not a muddy boring mess all crammed together below 200-300HzIn sections where drums/bass drop out, you can't hear that nasty suck when the compressors are forcing the remaining sounds back up, to regain volume at the mercy of the compressor/limiters fascist volume regime.Neil's drumming have regained the dynamic precision we all know he works hard to put into it. He never hits a drum or cymbal harder than it needs to, in an effort to create rhythm and you can finally actually hear it. Proper application of bus and track compression - as well as EQ with a touch more finesse must be credited here. The result of all this is that the tracks can finally breathe! This is mixing done properly, pure and simple, done by someone who truly understands the cumulative effect of making correct and measured and precise choices with a clear sound in mind. Oh god i created an abomination wall of text! I am deeply sorry - but my enthusiasm had to be shared somewhere! Anyone who cant hear a difference after an A/B test frankly needs their ears tested pronto. The differences are clearly audible even on shitty laptop speakers.
Mr. Not
So far the only potentially negative thoughts are on the CU solo and the GR opening. Anyone else hear anything they don't like? I noticed some jamming that I hadn't before near the end of OLV
