I love The Big Bang Theory, but I'm not into math and science to the degree they are, not even close. I don't read comic books, and my idea of a fun video game is Tetris or Bejeweled.

 

When I get into some kind of hobby, however, I REALLY get into it to an obsessive degree. That said, while I'm really into Star Trek and sci-fi, I doubt I'd go to a Star Trek convention or a comic con or something unless maybe I could get in for free or it was inexpensive and really convenient.

 

I love computers, but I'm not a programmer/hacker. In fact, recently I went to some really geeky meeting (not realizing that's quite what it was), and someone asked me what I hacked on. I really didn't understand the question.

The Big Bang Theory is more like a caricature of geeks rather than a true interpretation of what they are like. For instance, Sheldon own an Apple computer in the show. In reality, a person like Sheldon would never own an Apple computer because their software focuses too much on ease of learning instead of ease of use. So it is not really that accurate at all.

 

If you like Star-Trek and Sci-Fi then you are probably more than a 6, brother.

Somewhere between 6 - 8. I don't really like math or video games but I like history, science, reading, politics, and music. Sometimes I obsess over stuff, like music, but I'm not a full-blown geek.

I don't hang out with 'the geeks' in my high school, but I would fit right in with them... When I get into something, I REALLY get into it and become totally obsessed (Monty Python, Rush, The Twilight Zone, Bill Hicks, etc.)... I don't play D&D or watch Star Trek or read comic books or study math/science outside of school... I have an attractive significant other, but I call her my 'significant other' (I am NOT good with girls, I just got extremely lucky)... I have absolutely NO interest in cars, girls, parties, drugs (but I have friends who are)... I'm not computer savvy... I make references to things that people don't understand... When I text, I don't abbreviate anything... I almost exclusively listen to prog and jazz/fusion, which is very uncommon/geeky amongst highschoolers... I enjoy music theory, not just 'cool tunes' like everyone else my age...

 

6 or 7, I'll go with 6 because I would never go out of my way to attend a Sci-Fi convention.

Geddy I'd say is a 6, if nothing else than for fantasy baseball

 

Alex is a 2-Other musicians say he is one of the coolest MOFO's going and can drink anyone under the table. He also flies planes, which is, you know, kinda cool

But you mention somethings on your scale that are more associated with nerds than geeks. These include Star Trek and Comic Con.

 

Also, I'm sick of people referencing The Big Bang Theory when talking about geeks. The show is a caricature of the culture, ask and real geek/nerd.

OMG, finally some clarity! I am a 7. Especially the name your pets one- here is my main pet- "Luke", named for both Jon Luc Picard and Luke Skywalker! Maybe because he was named after two of the above, that means 2 points, so an 8?

 

Note that he is what is known as a "bald face" paint, so the John Luc reference was especially sweet. Mind you, being blond and blue eyed, Alex would have been good also.

I am a 2 based on this. I own Star Wars and of course a Rush fan. I don't get the Star Wars/geek thing. I know a ton of people my age whom are all about Star Wars. It's a generational thing, where Star Trek is just kind of geeky.

 

Never seen The Big Bang Theory and have no desire to watch it

Scully? Vin Scully? Never seen X-Files

 

No offense to anyone here, but I can't imagine going to a Rush Con

Lord of the Rings was just ok for me, no biggie. And can't touch Star Wars

Doubt I'll see The Hobbit
