Kudzu
Got my first Grateful Dead album (I know, I know) today: Blues for Allah. And I got U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind, which I have mixed feelings about as a Pop-lover.

Rush!
QUOTE (Kudzu @ Mar 21 2008, 05:09 PM) Got my first Grateful Dead album (I know, I know) today: Blues for Allah. I'd say that's a pretty lame choice for a starter album for the Dead. I suggest picking up Workingman's Dead and American Beauty as soon as possible. Thing is, I'm not that big on the country-rock thing. What about Aoxomoxoa? BTW, got an actual hard copy of Juluka's African Litany for cheapish from the Amazon Marketplace...I had it from iTunes before, but it's nicer to have the physical item. My favorite from REM is probably Automatic for the People, a very different record. But all of REM's albums are worth getting...the last two are decidedly less good but they still have some decent stuff, much like U2's last two. Their new album, Accelerate, that comes out a week from Tuesday is a total return to form though, that will be well worth getting.

Looking forward to that one. By the way, the only song I really love off of All That You Can't Leave Behind, upon review, is "Elevation". And "Walk On", "Wild Honey", and "When I Look at the World" have some merit. And the guitar part on "New York" is absolutely rocking, but the lyrics and melody are so trite. PuppetKing2112
"In a Little While" is where it's at. "Elevation" is like the worst song on the album. You think "New York" has bad lyrics, that whole "mole/hole/soul" and "I/sky/fly/high" rhyme scheme is pretty beneath them.

You think "New York" has bad lyrics, that whole "mole/hole/soul" and "I/sky/fly/high" rhyme scheme is pretty beneath them. But it works for the electronica/dance groove of the song. The lyrics on Pop are pretty similar, with the exception of "Wake Up Dead Man". "In a Little While" is okay, but it feels kind of formulaic. invisibleairwaves
If you ignore how overplayed it is, Beautiful Day is pretty awesome. Actually, I love the first 5 songs, but after that it gets a little dull.

Hatchetaxe&saw
Quite the coup. Friends of mine spent the past fortnight in Italy and on Friday night, one of them rang to say threy had come across a Pink Floyd exhibition cum trade fair. Relics - Brazilian vinyl - way out weird "face" cover 2 Korean bootlegs vinyl copies of Atom Heart Mother and Obscured By Clouds Original pressing of Meddle - mint Orginal pressing of More - excellent And... Stereo boot of David Gilmour live in Amsterdam 2006 double Cd - unbelievable quality.
