Good example of the message being clear, despite the error.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with that as they all should be "You're". wink.gif

Unless they are activity reports of the person actually POSTING "You're", as if to correct an incorrectly used "Your".

Not sure that I am catching exactly what you are saying.

The way I see it is:

You are(You're) on so and so's status.

Okay, I looked at it again. You are saying that the word "Your" was originally there and someone corrected all of them?

I am a total grammar nazi, I won't even lie. I correct people all the time. Your/you're, there/their/they're, its/it's, to/too/two, etc. Not to mention overzealous comma usage, as well as those who cannot figure out how to use a semicolon.

I ESPECIALLY get irritated by affect/effect. Come on people, affect is a verb, effect is a noun. Is it really that hard to remember?? Many people cannot grasp the concept of adverbs either. Also, you don't do something 'good,' you do it 'well.' Various little rules like that banghead.gif

I can go on and on..

EXCEPT for when you're effecting change!

I'm a total Grammar Nazi too! trink39.gif So much so that I earn my keep by, among other things, editing Latin textbooks and copyediting newspapers and magazines. Wow, that was a nerdy sentence. (A sentence fragment, that is; but it's not like I'm going to adhere to Chicago Manual of Style in discussion forums...)

Yeah, I use fragmented sentences quite often in the forum just because it can be much quicker than editing. smile.gif

Heh yeah there's that exception. I do something similar, but I like to translate stuff from German into English. Luckily for me, the grammar is very similar in both languages.

I forgot to mention apostrophes! People have been screwing this up a lot lately. An apostrophe never denotes pluralization, dammit! When I see people advertising their businesses and in their ads an apostrophe is used wrong, I cannot take it seriously. The way I see it, if you are too lazy to check your ads for spelling and grammar, you're basically telling me you don't pay attention to details, so I avoid you.

Exactly. That kind of stuff, to me, gives them an automatic bad reputation.

What do you guys think of THIS response?

The question is, "Free Sunday paper?"

A: Actually I already get it already.

Perfect English, if living in Brooklyn. To be grammatically perfect, it must be proceeded with "Get the f#ck outta here!".
