Beasts Of The Southern Wild

I've seen 5 of the 9 BP nominees and it's my favorite of them thus far. Great Oscar nominated performance by the young girl in the movie.

Still need to see Silver Linings, Amour, Les Miserables, and Lincoln.

I've seen all of those except Amour. All are good. Silver Linings and Lincoln are excellent! Les Mis is pretty good but I don't rate Jackman's singing so much.

Pull the string!

I know Burton doesn't have many admirers here, but this is certainly one of his best! Wish he still made 'em like this.

Brilliant film!

This is terrible! Give me The Omega Man any day of the week. Will Smith is awful, as is the script. Between the two of them the writer and Smith manage to turn the character of Robert Neville into an annoying, idiotic big baby obsessed with Shrek! Smith overacts like a damn fool! Pulling faces, shouting, raving, arguing with dummies and unfortunately the dummies steal every scene from him! Charlton Heston must have puked when he saw this and Richard Matheson too!

Love or hate the movie, a certain scene in that movie is really sad.

"Don't worry about a thing. Every little thing's gonna be alright."

There was too much reggae in the film too!

I saw this flick twice. The first time I thought it was entertaining. The second time I couldn't help but critique the hell out of it. The reggae wasn't the problem. One problem I had was how powerful those mutants/zombies/whatever were...turning over SUVs and scaling buildings barehanded in a few seconds?! WTF?! How?! Another MAJOR problem I had was Will Smith as a geneticist. I've never liked him as an actor but he's more believable as a cop, a cocky pilot, a drunk superhero, or as a (fresh) prince. I've said it before in another thread: Denzel Washington (if the moviemakers really felt they needed a black guy in the lead role that is) would've been way more believable as the lonely, intelligent scientist who can survive and kick ass.

Or Samuel L. Jackson

Easily Burton's best movie and the good old days when he and Depp did good movies and not the crap they're doing lately.

You're right, it's Burton's best. I find most of his work unwatchable (Planet of the Apes :| ).

Sure, I can imagine him talking into his video cam and logging the following,"The Crippen virus is some crazy ass repugnant shit. I don't know what to do but lay some cap in them pasty muthafuckas. Robert Neville out."

I think I need to watch that again. And surely I need to read the comics

It's pretty good. Ian Holm is particularly good, a creepy performance from him. It's not as good as the TV mini series "Jack the Ripper" though featuring Michael Caine and Armand Assante.

The Hughes brothers went to the same high school (Claremont High) as I did. They grew up nearby in Pomona,CA. Dead Presidents is still my favorite of theirs. Such an underrated war movie. It's sort of an urban equivalent to The Deer Hunter.

The two stupidest martial arts films I've ever seen! :smash:

Ian Holm always seemed like he could be Anthony Hopkins' brother. And that's a good thing!

Caine, Assante, and Seymour are all quality.

Yeah and she's about 5 foot nothing and 80 pounds, has no kung fu skills but in this flick they have her leaping around kicking the asses of loads of tough guys and martial arts thugs and they expect us to take it seriously. At least they weren't stupid enough to have her take down Michael Clarke Duncan.
