"Here Again" has to be one of the most underrated songs on the planet.

Alex's endless solo just rips through my skull!!

It's unbelievable!!

I wish Alex could lay down longer solos like this now!

No wonder he wasn't too happy back in the synth daze!

I don't blame him!!

Let's hope that Lerxst gets longer solos on "Clockwork Angels."

Sorry but the 80's synth material kills the early stuff in my view. I do agree that Alex needs to solo on every song but for my money Alex's best solos came in the 80's not 70's. The early stuff rocks for sure but just as Neil views it they were like in kindergarten compared to what they became. I don't think they totally hit their stride until Hemispheres although I don't discount ANY of their records.

While under pressure(so to speak)from the synth I too agree that he produced some his most inspired work.

Agreed. I'm an 80's girl, but this song is a monster. Geddy's voice is incredible and so emotional. The first time I ever heard it, I almost made myself late for work, not knowing how long it was, but said to myself, screw it, this is worth it. Probably my fave from the debut.

As much as I'm in agreement, I can't help but hearing Pink Floyd's "Money" in the guitar riff, which kinda ruins the song for me by not fault of the band. Their debut album rocks.

Hey USB!

Thanks for ruining that riff!!! Now I have "Money" in my head every time I hear it.

Agreed Earl. Here Again is amazing, as is the entirety of the hideously underrated debut album. I sure wish Alex rocked out like that on their most recent albums.

Even in the synth era on most of the songs there's enough time allowed for Alex to pull off a great solo. After Hold Your Fire, it's disappointing that there's very few truly memorable guitar solos because they're so brief that there's rarely a chance for him to build and develop the guitar breaks into anything really special.

And yes.gif the 2.gif album kicks major ass! 1022.gif

The guitar work on the first 3 albums trumps the rest of the catalog IMO. Sure the later stuff might have been more technical and played to fit the song, but the early stuff Alex just rips on.

Here Again, great song on an under appreciated album.

Hard for me to agree that they trump La Villa, but I'm pretty close in agreement. Certainly better than anything post Hemispheres.

COS has the best guitar work for me, thus making it my favorite album.

First album IS really good. High in rotation for me.

I think it's time for me to log off the computer, grab the Les Paul and rock out with the album. trink39.gif 1287.gif 1022.gif 1022.gif 1022.gif

Hey Metaldad!

Your hatred for "Snakes & Arrows" intrigues me!

I dig the album. Why do you hate the record so much? I forget!

I'm expecting more jams on CA, but I wouldn't expect more solos. Alex has said several times that although he used to be big into solos, they aren't as exciting anymore and now he likes to play something that works more in context to the song. I love what he does now because instead of shredding like everyone else, he makes all kinds of awesome sounds with the guitar. I find it to be more creative.

Geddy does the same now too. He said he used to like hammering out all the notes, now he focuses more on being melodic with his playing.

I wouldn't expect too much by way of shredding on CA, but I'm sure we'll get plenty on the tour to follow. But then again, with Rush, you never know!
