beanerschnitzel
I plan on introducing myself to them now. Any suggestions for a first time listener?
beanerschnitzel
Okay "fear of a blank planet" is not impressing. Lyrics a little juvenile and its just average. Somebody turn me on to a song they weren't trying to get a hit with. Whoa...the end is really cool. that just happened....NICE!!
beanerschnitzel
Okay "time flies" is pretty bad so far. Whats up with these lyrics? Real good players though...I'm drowning here guys...someone help me out.
beanerschnitzel
Oh, somone thinks they're late 90's Rush....now I know why Rush freaks love them so much. I see the similarity...but its just not the same. Man this guitar player probably LOOKS like Alex Lifeson.
beanerschnitzel
"Time Flies" is what happens when Rush and America have nasty dirty sex. Edited September 1, 2011 by beanerschnitzel
beanerschnitzel
"Way Out Of Here"....oh jeez..another teenage depression song. The music is pretty cool. But I've about had enough of these reality tv lyrics. Good lord.

Can-Utility
QUOTE (beanerschnitzel @ Sep 1 2011, 03:06 PM) Somebody turn me on to a song they weren't trying to get a hit with. I don't think they've tried to get hits with anything..
beanerschnitzel
Not trying to troll...I guess I just don't like them. I was honestly giving them a listen ready to be blown away cause I've heard so much about them. I was genuinely disappointed. Â And you don't hear harmonies that sound like America in that one song, you've never heard America.
Can-Utility
I haven't heard America

Test4VitalSigns
Check out Deadwing album...but I'm assuming you have already decided that PT is not your cup of tea
invisibleairwaves
Give "Trains" and "Blackest Eyes" from In Absentia a listen. Although I have to agree with you about the lyrics, they're by far the worst part about PT. Especially on Fear of a Blank Planet.
ColdFireYYZ
I will say that as great as it is, the lyrics for FOABP aren't too good but many of their albums have excellent lyrics. I really don't care since the music is all that matters. Edited September 2, 2011 by ColdFireYYZ
ILSnwdog
I found that you have to give PT a few listens. I was far from impressed the first time I listened to FOABP. Now I love it. Deadwing is pretty impressive too. Nil Recurring is really good too.
Ancient Ways
If lyrics are your thing you may not like them. Their music is amazing though. Varied, layered, atmospheric at times, heavy at times. What bothered me at first was the vocals but they fit the music after you get used to it. I am watching the blu ray of anesthetize right now and it is awesome.
Steevo
QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Sep 2 2011, 01:31 PM)I found that you have to give PT a few listens. I was far from impressed the first time I listened to FOABP. Now I love it. Deadwing is pretty impressive too. Exactly my experience with Fear. I can't think of any other band that took as long to get into. So glad I hung on in there for all the rewards they have given. The Incident, Deadwing and Fear are amazing albums, no question.
J2112YYZ
I've never heard them either. In fact I never even heard of them until they toured with Dream Theater a few years ago.

Babycat
I don't know who Porcupine Tree is. I couldn't name one person from it. Sorry.
circumstantial tree
I couldn't get into them. I found their songs to be too depressing. I tried introducing the band to a guitarist friend of mine who I thought would like them but turns out he didn't. His complaint was that they were too electronic.
