My head says 'trane, but f*ck it, I'm giving it to Andy Mackay of Roxy Music. He's as responsible, if not more so, as Eno for giving Roxy their unique sound on those first two albums. And the elegiac sax solo on Song For Europe is spine tingling.

Had to choose other since the great Stan Getz was not listed.

Check out Desafinado and his version of The Girl From Ipanema.

How good was he? They called him "The Sound."

John Coltrane (if just because he's from my homestate.)

but I also like Paul Desmond and Wayne Shorter.

I chose Walter Parizader from Chicago because I've been a Chicago fan almost as long as I've been a Rush fan....

...but Raphel Ravenscroft deserves an honorable mention! He was the guy that played on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street, and on Pink Floyd's Final Cut album! (as well as a whole bunch of other artists)

He's one of those guys you've heard, but didn't really know their name (until now!)

No one mentioned Candy Dulfer! O:

(I know, I know -- she's kind of an acquired taste. She has an unusually bright sound. But I love her stuff~)

I went with Parker for the sake of the poll... Just always loved his style of playing. He was really one of the original greats. But you've got a mighty fine list up there.. I'd love to see a really great saxophonist in concert some time in my life!

Love saxophone. I've been playing for eight years now and I don't plan on dropping it any time soon.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I like most of the guys I have listened to from this list and I play sax myself. But I'm shocked by the lack of the brilliant David Jackson/Jaxon on this list. Nobody cuts through your mind and soul like that guy. Just listen to My Room, Man-Erg, or A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers.
