Entre_Perpetuo
Oh, another random note, the actual label of the record is a picture on one side and song listings on the other, so in my haste to get it on, I accidentally put side two on first, lol. So here goes side one. Now you'll have to listen to it again immediately so you can hear it in proper order. Lol, listening with my dad. He says, "well of course the guys on the Rush forum would say that." Well, it is a concept album. You have to hear the story in order. We weren't paying much attention to the lyrics since dad's watching a baseball game and I was just reading up on the album's history, but we did go ahead and listen to side 2 again. We both love the title track, and all around I didn't hear anything I didn't care for.

Entre_Perpetuo
Dad and I watched the classic album series on Number Of The Beast, and I've just begun to realize how phenomenal of a frontman Dickinson is from that and watching some other footage. Like, this dude was made to be on stage, in the spotlight, and etched in your brain. I refuse to turn in my Priest loyalty card, but UP THE IRONS! Dickinson makes me feel like I would, could, and should do that while simultaneously having to realize that probably I won't, can't, and shan't. But hey, I'm an optimist, so I'm just gonna take the inspiration. The man has a way with the stage I don't think I've seen from any other living performer tbh.

You are aware that you can be both a Priest and Maiden fan, right? In fact there's a few million of us. Bruce is one of the greatest frontmen ever. Even now at 60 he brings it live better than just about anyone. The guy has this limitless energy that blows you away when you see them live.

My heart's in both bands at this point, though Priest were there first. I'd love to see either of them live. Up there with Aerosmith and Muse for bands I still need to go see with my dad. Bruce is wicked on stage.
GeddyLeeRoth
In Bruce's bio he said they lacked criticism after Seventh Son. It seemed that their formula couldn't fail, and they could have used some advice for No Prayer. I'm possibly the only person who likes No Prayer better than Seventh. :) Seventh is very good, I like every Maiden album except the Blaze ones (which I have to revisit. I have to listen around Blaze. It's not Bruce-centrism, I like Paul's work. Just don't think Blaze fit well. The Clansman is excellent, though). No Prayer is really uneven and I don't like every song, so arguably it's worse than Seventh even for me. But it's high points are better than Seventh's as well. It's not one of my favorites, and it doesn't hold a candle to SSOASS, but No Prayer is Maiden's most under-rated album. It's definitely better than Fear Of The Dark. The songs are just plain better overall and it sounds fresher. It's a shame they have completely forsaken playing Tailgunner, Public Enema, or anything from that album live. The Legacy Of The Beast Tour would have been the perfect time to dust off a song from that album and stop playing FOTD for at least one freaking tour! Entre_Perpetuo
I think Seventh is currently my favorite Maiden album. Every song is unique and fantastic, the lyrics I actually quite enjoy, the diversity of material and moods is greater than any other Maiden album I've heard, the overall progginess is a great fit for them, and the performances are killer. Maybe it's not filled with so many riffs, and maybe some of the songs of earlier albums are more legendary, but as for nitpicking... Number has Gangland and Eclipse (depending on your version), which aren't bad, but are more filler than killer.Piece is samey and murky throughout that it gets a bit tiresome for me to even listen through the highlights at times all in a row, plus it has Quest For Fire...eh.and Powerslave, much as I do love it, can be very one dimensional. Not in the same way as Piece with its samey, murkier production, but more just in the general tone of the proceedings, Rime being the exception. And the middle of it just feels like a middle, not quite as awesome as the start and the end. On Seventh Son I personally find no filler. In fact my least favorite track is probably Can I Play With Madness, just for it's more standard structure (killer hook and bridge though). I don't really find it samey, and the production is far from murky. It's also not one dimensional to me, different songs going in very different directions, and every song seems to matter musically and conceptually. I've said before how much I love Powerslave and Number, and I still do (not a wasted note on Powerslave really), but I find Seventh far more interesting and personal so far. It's really showed me Iron Maiden's versatility and inventiveness in a way nothing else yet has. I love all three, and I also enjoy Piece Of Mind a whole lot (Quest For Fire really just kind of irks me at the start, To Tame A Land on the other hand is incredible). These four being the only Maiden albums I've yet heard, my ranking is as follows: Seventh Son of a Seventh SonPowerslaveThe Number Of The BeastPiece Of Mind I challenge any band to make three albums as incredible as that top three. Rush has a top three that are probably better than that. Powerslave is easily the bands most overrated album. I know the band was really hot at the time and the album and tour represent that better than any other release. But those four middle songs are nothing special. The first two and last two tracks are all time classics. You wanna talk about sounding the same, those four songs just run together and have no individual identity. But fans love for that era blinds them to that and they think the whole album is great but those songs are just there to make a full album. That might get people talking here. J2112YYZ
While I don't think No Prayer is bad, it's definitely the most "nothing special" album of the Bruce era. No, that would be Fear Of The Dark. On No Prayer you could tell they were still trying and their heart was in it. But with Fear it was obvious that the band had run out a gas and something needed to change. J2112YYZ
Maybe Earl will finally shut up about all the new stuff they played last tour since this is an old school set lol. For those that didn't see the set from their European tour earlier this year than you're in for a real treat. Excited they're coming here. They did the local amphitheater here back in 2012. But I think this is the first time they'll be playing in the actual city of Buffalo since Fear Of The Dark probably.

J2112YYZ
I'm definitely going to the show here. My brother and I have also talked briefly about possibly making a weekend trip to Toronto to see the two show there. Nothing set in stone for that yet but if I end up being in Toronto for a few days I will definitely have to set up a meet and greet with Rod. We shall see.
