HowItIs
In Hand Over Fist I thought I heard "wife of the postman and a telephone" which, of course, makes NO sense at all. It's really "wait for the postman and the telephone" Also... not misheard but; in Prime Mover, some lyrics I've seen read "National resistance/responses" even the official songbook. But GG has it correct here. I KNOW Geddy is singing "Rational." The other just doesn't make any sense at all. Any ideas of how it got screwed up like that? Undemanding Contact
QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Mar 25 2011, 11:00 AM)Mine is Fly by Night: misheard lyrics: Changes are coming and I just can't pretend correct lyrics: My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend I was SO sure I was right about this one, I lost a bet with a husband on it. I couldn't believe it when I read the correct lyrics. ...And I always thought it was "My ship is a-comin' and I just can't pretend". It never occurred to me that I was wrong - it really does sound like that to me. You live and learn...

StellarJetman
"Hopin' Secrets" Ed went right by me. At the time, Ed won over my head. I was looking at the window. I shouldn't look at your face, instead. He went right by me, Justin over wall. They showed a bitter moment When we let our berries fall. I never met what you're thinking. It's not what I'm in at all. Well, I guess we all had these peelings. Can't leave 'em wreckin' style. Someone then burned out our sealings; Someone then earned us a child. Things that they're concealing. Wheel'd never lettuce grow. Tidal dew is healing; You've got to let Ed go. Clothes for my protection. Open to your storm. Between these 'tude erections, My art is sometimes torn. I lie and wink with my secrets Spittin' 'round my Ed. Something that's somehow escapee. Some think he showed 'em NSAID. I was looking at the window. I shouldn't look at your face, instead. Well, I guess we all had these peelings. Can't leave 'em wreckin' style. Someone then burned out our sealings; Someone then earned us a child. Things that they're concealing. Wheel'd never lettuce grow. Tidal dew is healing; You've got to let Ed go. Let Ed go. Fido had solution. Hear my rational point of view. Baby, some things are distinctive, But there's one thing you could do: Yuka tried to understand me, A good try to understand you. Yuka tried to understand me, A good try to understand you. Well, I guess we all had these peelings. Can't leave 'em wreckin' style. Someone then burned out our sealings; Someone then earned us a child. Things that they're concealing. Nim2
QUOTE (KW84 @ Oct 5 2010, 10:26 PM) The battle flags are flown at the feet of a GARDEN GNOME. I confess. I was wondering what size those battles flags would have to be if they were actually flying at the feet of a garden gnome. Those would some pretty tiny flags. For a while I thought the line in 2112 was "My life PLUG spills over"
Lost In Xanadu
My daughter just asked me yesterday (while listening to Hemispheres) : "Why are they going to call him 'Sickness'?" Confused I asked her what she was talking about... and she said... "in the song you just listened to, they said "we will call you sickness"
BigBob
QUOTE (udanax @ Oct 6 2010, 07:33 PM) I think I've posted this before, but in Subdivisions I always thought that "Unlike moths we drift into the city" was "Unlike mobs we drift into the city"... I also don't know half of the lyrics to Freewill... I always thought they said "Run like Mars" And also, I could of sworn these were the lyircs to Subdivision as "In The Battle Cars" "Be Couped or be Cast Out" instead of "In the Backs of Cars" "Be cool or be cast out" Because my misheard lyrics, I always thought this song was about Military Government being overthrown on Mars. I had no idea it was about being a misfit. I kind of like my misinterpretation more.

CrossedSignals
QUOTE (PriestOfSyrinx @ Oct 5 2010, 06:22 PM) Have you ever misheard or thought a word was something it actually isn't? After 5 years of being a Rush fan (and having it as my favorite song) I learned that in Subdivisions "The timeless soul attraction" is actually, "the timeless OLD attraction". GET OUT! I thought it was "timeless SOUL attraction" too. I can't believe this.

manders
QUOTE (StellarJetman @ Mar 27 2011, 12:10 PM) Same question, but regarding the pervasive substitution of "heartbreak" for "high-grade" in "Marathon". What on Earth is a "heartbreak climb uphill" supposed to be? "Heartbreak climb uphill" is a reference to the Boston Marathon. It's the final hill of the 26.2 mile course that comes at about 20.5 miles. If you're not a runner, you may not be familiar with "the wall" that is often hit around the 20 mile mark. At any rate, as I have run 2 marathons in the past, let me just say you're pretty damn tired after running 20 miles, and even this not-so-big hill in a race can make you go crazy. I always heard "never try to leave" and never thought to look up the lyric until your post I wonder if there are any other songs where French is spoken that I've misheard all this time, excluding the obvious lines in Circumstances. For the longest time I thought the line in TSOR was "ripe and tender, blissful with the energy." Oh, and "Time's up ladies, grouped by flickering PORCHLIGHT!" The first time I listened to By-Tor and BB&B I had NO CLUE what was being sung. But I loved it Edited May 2, 2012 by SchemingDemon
