There are lots of albums out there chalk full of hits, but the best albums have continuity, each song complements the others, variety, a 'song cycle', you know a real 'beginning', a centerpiece song, a real denoument of an ending, and the other songs are a glue that adds texture and wholeness to the album. I love The Beatles more than any other band I listen to, by far, and I would only consider maybe 1 or 2 of their albums as "perfect". The same with Rush, only 1 or 2 albums. I love Bob Dylan and I listed Blonde on Blonde as a perfect album. I listened to it recently, it's not perfect. And I don't necessarily consider a "perfect" album a masterpiece.
