RUSHHEAD666
Thanks to Mara's "Twilight" Thread I was thinking are there really movies out there that are better than the book? I can think a few but I am sure not everyone on here would agree, hence it is a forum. Let's see: "The Shining" Kurbrick "A Clockwork Orange" Kubrick "2001: A Space Odyssey" Kubrick You can see I'm a big Stanley Kubrick fan. "Christine" John Carpenter "Jaws" Stephen Spielberg
Arndrake
Bladerunner After reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, I developed three opinions: 1. I felt the dark dystopic vision was better presented in the movie. 2. The underlying question theme of whether Deckard was actually a replicant brought a better layer to the character. 3. In contrast, some of the characters in the book, especially Deckard, Batty, and Rachel, seemed to lack dimension that was better presented in the film. circumstantial tree
I think "Carrie" is a better film than King's book. Even King thought Brian DePalma's movie ending was better than the ending in his book.
ReRushed
QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 27 2010, 08:05 PM) "2001: A Space Odyssey" Kubrick The book was actually based on the movie. The movie was based on a short story The Sentinel, written by Arthur C. Clarke. Kubrick and Clarke fleshed the story out into 2001, then Clarke wrote the book. Which version of "Bladerunner" did you like better? Theatrical or Director's Cut???? Which way did the book end??

Mr. Not
Of all the stephen king movies I've watched, I've read the book beforehand.. The only movie that was better than the book was "Misery" The other stephen king movies I have seen are IT, 1408, The Shining and The Mist (but I didn't read the Mist)... Tick
I have never seen a movie better a book I read. Not many books I have read have become movies. Off hand I can think of The Shining and The Amityville Horror. I'm sure there are more but...

circumstantial tree
When they remade "Carrie" and "The Shining", they stayed truer to the book, but neither of these remakes were worth anything.

Mandalorian Hunter
Sorry Earl, I know you're not a HP fan, but; Order of the Phoenix was definitely a better film. The book was too long, especially for my 13 year old self - reading it on a summer holiday made me feel as if the holiday was long, uneventful and boring. Now to Bond. I reckon the 2006 version of Casino Royale is better than the book, and I really like some of the added bits of From Russia With Love, like the boat chase to Italy. That's a suprise for me as the novel is superb and probably the best of the Fleming series.

That was at JK's request after the shambles that was Goblet of Fire. I'm still astounded people like that film. Besides, at least with Order they kept the main story intact, and barring the other 'challenges' at the Ministry, didn't omit too many important things. That's the luck of adapting a book that's (too) wordy and descriptive.
