Sticklah
I've listened to this guy for quite a while now and although hes no musical genius he isn't bad and his lyrics are quite good despite making little to no sense some of the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-sJgQM1hWw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSY-AOzv6Dw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GigDNKrtjQM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrxknUArwPg&feature=related So its more hip-hop than rap but still. Slime
Don't worry everyone. This thread will soon be filled with people telling us about how ALL rap EVERYWHERE at ANY TIME sucks and how dumb we all must be to appreciate it. In all seriousness, you can't beat Run DMC. It's nigh impossible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vaAlnR-LeA
Rush!
The Roots "What They Do" Public Enemy Boogie Down Productions "Poetry" A Tribe Called Quest "Jazz(We've Got) & Buggin' Out" And, of course... BTW, I have to recommend N.W.A, especially "Express Yourself".

Xanadude69
Its the music ,or lack there of, is what turns me off of rap. No melodies, no GUITAR!. just a bunch of electronic sounds and beats. how boring. that's what turns me off of rap mainly. Then you get to the ridiculous lyrics, haha what a joke. BUT there are some rap artists that do have meaningful lyrics but the music or beats what ever you want to call it, still sound crap to my ears. I just can't get into it. Territorial_Game
I just don't get rap. To me, it comes in 2 forms- the kind that actually means something (which, given my upper-middle-class, WASP background, I cannot relate to), and the kind that caters to rich, white kids trying to be "gangster" (which I refuse to accept as any form of art). The former of the two I definitely respect for what it is, but I just don't like listening to it. The latter just pisses me off.
